Is this an effective shot?  What is the yardage?

I want to replace my hybrid but would have a big gap between

    3iron (200 yds) and 3wd (240 yds).

Just try it on a flat fairway. You can punch all clubs except your putter of course, even your driver.

Toss the hybrid far away and experiment with 3 wedges (OK 4 if incl PW) plus the 3 wood and driver ...................You will not regret!

If it's anything like the R11 3W, most definitely. You're not going to be sticking greens with that shot so don't concern yourself with the yardage. It's a recovery shot to get you back in play and the flight is really low so you have to make sure you aim accordingly. There's very little carry with a ton of roll. I find it works best from 30-40 and 40-50.

    +1!

It's 225 nominal, and I just tried it on RSG #1. From the tee, it got stuck in the rough before the fairway, thus went only 200 yds. Second shot with minimal tailwind went 241 to the side of the green with barely 190 yds carry - see replay.

Edit: This would be valid for the G20 irons:

Alas, your numbers are misleading. The 3WD is 240/225 yds but the 3I is 215 yds (4I @200). Thus the gap is not that big.

Edit: With the Rapture irons, the gap should be as you said...

One thing you might also consider is upgrading your iron set to the G20's. I know it is hard to get rid of the Raptures but the gap between the 3 wood and 3 iron would be much less. They have much better trajectory, spin and precision and are only slightly less forgiving. They do have a faster meter speed but the same as your driver 3 wood and close to your wedges so that might not be a problem.

+1 The OP is on the verge of Legend and will shortly require the higher trajectory. As for the 3W - agreed as stated,

+1 for ditching the hybrid, you will not need this and a third wedge is far more beneficial.

I actually mentioned that in my post until I looked at what he has. He uses the HB instead of the 3W and already has 3 wedges! That's different.  :-)

I bought the g20 3wd.  As mentioned, the punch has low trajectory and a lot of roll...maybe useful in gale winds on links courses.  I tried a few practice holes...the 3wd seems to lose precision under 90% full power (216 yds), same as long irons.  So with my rapture irons, the 3 wd will give a precision gap at 200-216 yds.  Until I upgrade my irons,  I will try swapping 3wd / hybrid / wedge depending on the course played.  BTW I am far from legend...just made TM.  Thanks for replies.
