hole in one payouts are pathetic

  You say you increased hole in one payouts. Have not got one yet, but, when I paid 10 credits and got within 1 ft I got 2 credits???

  Its a "Hole in One" challenge not a "Close to a hole in one" challenge. Wgt could just pay out on the HIO and nothing else.

  That's true Shrude however to at try and tempt players to take the challenge I think it would be prudent for WGT to at least refund the bet if you get within say 2-3 feet. Otherwise the odds are so low, why bother to take the challenge? I certainly don't but accidently did when I thought  clicked NO lol (got logged out and they automatically default to challenges on). 100cr wasted - never again.
