Please please please please please please please please please please turn the wind up, in the words of Spinal Tap, to 11 for the final round of the Open.
The scoring has been too low and the oldest course in the world deserves a little more respect.
Thanks in advance
TAP
11 is only a gentle breeze at St Andrews. Try 30-40, that's more realistic!
If they're going to do that, they'll have to make it so that the wind conditions are the same for everyone as this is a very important event, so no instances of one person getting a tailwind on the 9th to drive it in 1 and another getting a headwind and being forced to play 2 shots.
Sorry the reference to Spinal Tap is that instead of having their speakers with a top volume of 10 they had them made with a top volume of 11. I must be getting old.
Over I think that we just have to take what you get, a tail wind is not beneficial on some holes and a straight at you wind is great on others. Mind you 30 miles an hour straight at you on the 17 would be a lot of fun.
Well, I enjoyed the Tap reference Paul... :)
We saw wind speeds varying greatly throughout the day during the real Open, so if they whack up the speed for the final round, it'll be fair enough with me.
I once caddied for my son (+3 Hcap) in the St Andrews Links Trophy - at the first he hit driver, 2 iron, both on the button, and ended up in the burn. At 18 he hit a 3 iron through the green.
Guess he should have laid up ......
Twice .....
Just kidding .. that's a great indication of just how bad those winds can be.
Haha - of course, he said it was my fault for not clubbing him properly!!
