    YankeeJim:

A punch will get you out of anything at Merion. Just don't get greedy-play smart.  :-)

I've re-thought my approach to the really sticky weed at merion.

Forget punch, chip or full, use a bong.

i think some of the weeds are even 70-80.  i have not experimented with punch and would like to hear the calculations from all you that do use that shot... But for me I use just under 3x distance with full wedge full b/s.  seems to get out close enough to save par....Most importantly though is not to get there in the first place - LOL

Won't work at certain holes on Merion, full wedge for those

OK, I'll keep that in mind...!

I'll tell you one that confounds me, it is on the Olympic CTTH. Can't recall the exact % of rough, it's close to the green and there is a strong down-slope to the hole. The ball either doesn't make it to the green, or it rolls way past the hole.

    hi

you could be talking about par3 12th i think where there is a hard slope from right side and hole located within 3 yards of the rough. Best play is to play left, but if not, I'd try to flop out of it. Cant say how hard, you have to try it:)
