Ok, I rarely post on WGT, so I hope everyone will forgive me that I'm posting twice today, especially since responses to this will benefit others, as well, I'm sure. Merion is the first course on WGT that I've seen that has "weeds" that are from 40-60% depth lies. Chipping out of them usually gives a zero or 1 yard return, even if you overcompensate, so HOW IN THE H- do you play a shot from the weeds when you're only several yards from the pin? Any good advice would be appreciated!

Punch, with some practice you'll get the hang of it.

A full wedge shot gets you out of it, still needs an extra strong whack though.

From that high % of rough around the green, pitch instead of chip. Add a couple or a few yards depending how close you are to the hole. Full backspin will help the ball from going too far, I'm sure you've heard this before, maybe you should invest in better wedges?

Won't work at certain holes on Merion, full wedge for those

OK, I'll keep that in mind...!

I'll tell you one that confounds me, it is on the Olympic CTTH. Can't recall the exact % of rough, it's close to the green and there is a strong down-slope to the hole. The ball either doesn't make it to the green, or it rolls way past the hole.

Merion has weeds that are much much higher than that and one of the things that is missing on WGT is an explanation of all of the rough by definition. Light brush, heavy brush, weeds, dirt, mulch. This has come up time and time again from players that are new to the game and are looking for some sort of direction on how to hit out of that type of hazard.
