    Hello.

Does anybody have any advice for suffering a loss of form?

I'm playing like a hack. If there is a rough I'll find it, a bunker I will go in it,  and putts are just not dropping. I've tried everything. I've slowed down and taken time over shots and I've tried not to care and play quickly. Nothing works.  My last 18 hole round was driving accuracy 57% and GIR 39%. I've tried all courses. Even on St Andrews I struggle.

Matchplay I'm fine. Alternate shot I'm playing well, hitting good drives, getting close to the pin and holing putts.

I never quit games, no matter how bad I play, because I know I'll come through it and play the odd good shot that gives me confidence. Even that's not happening at the moment. I struggle to decide which course to play and then when I'm on the tee I lack any confidence. I've done 500+ rounds and try to play a variety of courses. I have my favourites which usually yield good scores, but not now. I seem to worry over every shot to the point where I think this is not enjoyable anymore.

I'm not blaming the meter. I never really get any problems with it. I must be lucky. I can't make any excuses. It's said there is a fine line between success and failure. I'm just missing the fairways slightly, the appoach shots not quite being accurate enough and the putts only just missing. Slight miscalculation of the wind. It's a number of small things that when added up make a big difference. When things are going your way they don't matter so much, but when you are struggling nothing goes your way.

I know there is no magic formula. Any tips to get me back enjoying the game and posting some good scores would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Jason.

You should join a large country club with lots to do and loads of people to help you. Even if your game doesn't improve they'll teach you to laugh about it.

    Been there done that,

Keep at it Jason, It,s a slump, its like the shanks. You will get out of it. What i do is re-evaluate. Ask yourself if you are still doing the right things, making the right decisions, your puts are just missing, high or low?, you miss the fairway, with or against the wind?. Keep asking yourself these questions and you will figure it our You have got to keep hacking. Why are your shots just wrong, thats what you need to find out.

    Be brave

Work on one of these things at a time.

If its driving then concentrate on your driving for a round, dont cloud your mind with all the other little nuances, yet.

next round concentrate on the approaches.

Get back to basics as well.

Have you created a flair for the way you drive?  Go back to day one and apply basic skills, remove  what you might have done to clutter your initial perception & methods.

Sometime we get a bit too 'slick' at things and when they fall apart, we try to apply the 'slick' to no avail.

Get back to basics, apply the basic methods to achieve your result, once you are back on track slowly reintroduce those tweaks you have the flair with.

Maybe even  resurrect  one of those balls you used to play with, that is lying around in your bag.

And keep in mind, some days you are the pigeon and some days you are the statue.

Thank you all for your help.

I like the pigeon and the statue. I'll have to remember that one.

The Legend tier has been kicking.. my.. ass..

First I addressed some issues I had with short putts (missing to many). Instead of moving my aiming point, i started purposely missing the DING! to compensate for break in the green. It took some getting used to, but i now have a lot more confidence on short breaking putts.

I finally realized my main issue was I was inconsistently hitting the DING! on tee and approach shots, and having putts that were just to long to have a real chance of making birdie.

So I started being more careful with how I used my eyes during the stroke, and re-discovered a technique I had used before.

I also refined how I decide how far left or right of the flagstick I need to set my aiming point to allow for the wind.

In short I wasn't paying close enough attention to the details.

Looking at your stats you need to get those wedge shots closer, are you using all of your options? The flop and punch are just as important as the chip and pitch. If you get those wedge shots just 10% closer you'll probably make twice as many one putts.

Well this may be the worst advice yet... but here hit goes...

If you have lost "it" then try to remember the last place you had it.... Retrace your steps and who knows it may surprise you where it was.

Basically meaning... In our attempts to improve our game we change things... minor... but when that doesn't help we change something else... Maybe if you can think back you can remember something that you adjusted and maybe it is as easy as falling back on an old routine.

    either way.. Good Luck
