Very very nice score in that condition MKG335. Over 50 players has finished R2 and i saw only 1 man better than you 1 stroke in R2. Only Angentbrown123 shoot under 60. Oh really nightmare R2.

Hoangvn10, thank you very much.  I think having played St A quite a bit when I joined WGT last year helped me deal with the wind, since high wind at Merion is only moderate wind at St A and at RSG.  Also, I find the champ greens much easier to putt than the slow greens from R1.

AgentBrown has put together two superb rounds and is going to be very hard to beat, I think...but I'd never count out the top players who've yet to tee it up in R2.

Thanks for starting and maintaining this thread, it's been (and will continue to be) very interesting reading.

Aw Mike, I'd never do that...I definitely got lucky on some putts, especially a downhill 32 footer on #3 that somehow found the cup.  Thought I was looking at 3 or 4 putts for sure.

You turned in two very nice rounds, my friend.

Wow... just finished the 2nd round of the Open on Merion, and I learned a few things:

-I will never, EVER, play this course on champ greens again... ever...

-I consider myself a better-than-average player, and I don't recall hitting one shot that I would take back before seeing the result (which NEVER happens!).. yet I shot 69.

-I did see my share of funny business on the greens... I hit a lot of putts that died right next to the hole or rimmed out, where I had good speed.. and still ended up 7-8 feet away or more.   I play the champ greens a lot and like them normally... but this course is difficult to gauge with all the extreme slopes.

-I will never, EVER, play this course on champ greens again... ever...

Congrats to AgentBrown.... hell of a round.. must've hit a lot of great shots for that score!

Thanks Cartney, It was just one of those rounds that felt easy. Most everything went my way. Thing that really helped jump start my round was almost holing out on 5 and making a 10 footer on 6... from there I parred 8 13 17 and 18. with lip outs on both 17 and 18...ohh if I could of made one more putt, that would of gave me almost  a guaranteed win :(

Hi man, dont be disappointed. You are qualified for The open so it be sure your putt is not bad. At Bethpage & St andrews (there are not many slop on greens like here) we can find someone can make putt like machine but no one can do that here (:. I think the problem with your putt in the open are:

    1. You are the Legend tier & not able to practice on champ green like TLs.

    2. The VEM effect on putting recently are much more than in the past. (ask wgt?)

    3. Your approach shots to the pin are not guaranteed your success putting in this course. I mean closer are not better in this case. The best way for successful putt in this course is finding the right side for easier putt. It should be to avoid the risky side such as from the downhill & the side where you have to make 10 inch break putting ( from there you can be punished seriously even your approach within 5 ft, but you can be successful & safe if your shots were in flat & uphill side even from 10 ft)

I could shot 53 RG (orange tee, 16 birdies in streak & 1 more at hole18th by my...starter putter ('-'), missed only one 14 ft putt hole 17th by putting VEM ...lol, the ball looks like going into the hole but eventually lipped out, no eagle in that round), but other time i shot 65-66 (:

Good luck in another chances man.

Nice score there John.I do think your in a healthy position as with my calcs i think there is about only 16 ppl tops who can possibly beat you.

I personally feel sorry for my m8 Mike who actually had 2 bogeys in his round.and still posted a 58 leaving him 1 shot behind you :(
