Mike, I hear ya loud and clear.  Just seems a bit puzzling to set up a US Open with slow greens...<shrug>

Five inches of virtual rain fell in the three days before the first round of the VUSO.

That explains the virtual slugs that were faster to the hole than my virtual ball, and the virtual turtle water skiing in front of #11 green.

    But...slow greens?

I agree. I am not complaining either. The Open is just a competition like all the others for me (nothing special for most players in Europe, we cannot win any prize :) ). So I don't really care.

Of course, good players have to adapt to all conditions, that's true. However, we are playing all over the year on championship or tournament greens when playing weekly, monthly or ready go. Once in a while we get very fast greens, but it's very rare to get slower greens. So that's not very logic in my view. If we would get all green conditions all over the year, then ok. But here that's a strange setup to my view. But again I don't care much. It's just a bit frustrating to miss short few putts. But I guess I will not be the only one :) .

    Regards.

genorb, it's a shame you Europeans can't win any of the prizes, and your point about playing all year on champ or tourney greens is a good one.

    Strange setup indeed!

I get that they like to throw curve balls. Point taken. But a simple fact is the US OPEN is suppose to be the hardest conditions of any tourney.

Now they make it possible to post a 54 maybe a even a 53 in the 1st round.

Its a joke, plain and simple.

    Cheers,

WIth ya, b0gey... I was shocked to see the slow greens... I thought I was looking at the wrong tourney.  The champ greens might have made some holes almost unplayable.  Having said that, I can't remember the last time I played slow greens... and these greens are slow with tourney speed.  Gonna play on, but it has a cheap feel to me.

I don't see any 54's yet... the slow greens are proving to be an effective curve-ball so far if that was WGT's goal...

3 day heavy rain before The Open let WGT made slow green. I think the slow green in rainy condition are not easier then fast green in sunny day in real world. It is same in WGT.

With heavy winds & championship green in next round, big different results will be happen. I played some heavy winds in this course and felt it is far different from mod winds & big surprises can be happen. Let wait & see R2. GL every1.

We saw in R1 many very high expected players are collapsed. They are beaten by this extremely dangerous course & high pressure of The Open. But I think the chance for holding The Open trophy obviously still be opened for the guys who shoot 59s & below in R1. R2 will be certainly nightmare for anyone. Be patient men. Good luck every1 in R2.

I was glad to see the high winds and champ greens, seemed more like an Open.  After a very mediocre 1st round 65, was able to follow up with a 60 in the 2nd, a round that included 10 birds and 8 pars, a sandy, a few scrambles, and 22 putts.

Of course I'll finish pretty far down on the list, but wouldn't trade the experience for anything.  Kinda pleased that I was able to play 36 holes with only one bogey.

Good luck to all who've yet to finish, and congrats and major props to the eventual winner.
