I've just been playing a Practice round on Kiawah, trying out different shots. I ended up losing two balls then gave up as there isn't much point to trying out things in a practice round if it's going to cost you money.

It would make sense to me if in practice rounds you couldn't lose balls, as it discourages people from trying things out - after all, isn't that the purpose of practice?

Before some smart alec tries to tell me the game's supposed to mimic real life, they can also tell me the last time any real person shot 55 round St Andrews................or anywhere near it.

    Hi Bigfoot,

I agree totally with your lost ball comments in practice. If we lose them in ranked game play - OK, it hurts but I'll live.

In practice I think its a bit rich. Surely we can keep practice separate - lets face it the rounds dont count, and we try all sorts of alternative shots. If they dont come off you learn by it - but to lose a ball in practice, thats a bit rough imo.

    Any comment Niv?

    Cheers

    Surprisingly, I'm in agreement here.

Losing balls, or even wearing them out, in a practice round is a bit much.

Yea yea, could practice with the starter balls but then what's the point of practicing?

    Sorry fellas,

I can certainly sympathize with your request, but playing a practice round and playing a ranked round is the same thing.  You are still playing a round of golf.  The only difference between the two is that stats are not recorded in practice rounds.

IRL, If you put your ball in a water hazard while practicing, you still lose the ball.

    OK - fair enough.

Thanks once again Niv for responding. I appreciate it.

In that case I can see no point whatsoever in having the practice round facility. It doesn't count for stats so there's no point in finishing it out. You might just as well play a ranked round and quit when you've done what you wanted to do, as there's no other difference between the two.

As there is no dedicated practice facility one has no alternative but to practise on the course. I thought some leeway might be able to be shown in this matter, however I suppose when you can profit from people losing balls and having to purchase more to replace them why would you?

indeed if u lose a ball in RL practice its gone...so it would stand to reason that while lookin for this stray ball you wld stumble across a few other balls and slip them into your bag...so come on wgt lets have some zones in the rough where you can find a few tour  sd balls...yours expectantly me! :P

i could put them in egg boxes and sell them back to the players...i wld call them free range balls...burk buk buk buk!

bigfoot, the big difference in the practice round setup versus the ranked round, is in practice you can choose the tee's, wind, green speed and pins in practice mode.  In ranked you are stuck playing your tiers tees and greens.  So if you wanted to get some practice in high winds, on very fast greens to tackle a premium tourney or ready go its the only way to simulate the tournament conditions.

Other then that, they are the same.  I am in agreement though losing balls in practice sucks.  Luckily for those of us able to play the ready gos and MPC games our earnings fund ball purchasing.

lost a ball on st ands #14 in the fairway.  i know the  road is over to the left but my ball didnt even get close.  The other day in a real round i hit a ball out of bounds and walked over and found the ball.  Then i continued to play with it amazing!!!!  I didnt mind the bs lost balls when they cost 64 credits for a 3 pack, but now they are 300 cr.  It really sucks when you steal our credits with bogus lost balls..  I would be a good idea to keep your customers happy.
