    Doublemochaman:

I liken it to horse racing.  When you go to the track and place a bet it goes into the "pool"... the sum total of all that is bet on a particular race.  Generally, 15% is deducted from that pool for the track and for the government.  After that 15% is deducted the remaining money is split up depending on which horses won, placed or showed, based on their odds at post time.

WGT takes their fair share, their part of the profits, to keep this game running, off the top. The rest is paid back to the participants.  Just like horse racing.  Personally I have no problem with WGT deducting 10% to run the game.  They are a business.  They have the right to make money.  I don't believe it is exorbitant.

Like i said I agree with you when it is a RG or other paid tournament with 50 or 200 players. That is like your horse racing analogy.  There are numerous people betting on one event, so someone needs to "hold the money" if you will. I  get that.

One on one match plays or even 4some skins or blitz wouldn't use a "house" or "bookie" to run their bet. Why would Player A and Player B run down to the local sports book to bet against each other in a personal match.

Also, just saying all this cuz WGT always uses the fact that they are the most real golf game out there, and they are, and everyone here compares this to real life, so i am just doing the same.

Just saying IMO, the majority of the time, with match play and skins and blitz, this isn't how the bets would be handled

I actually got no issue when it comes to the RGs and other paid tourneys, you need a house to manage the money

Haven't heard of many pairings going to the pro shop or caddy house and asking someone to manage the bet for them and taking 10%

I bet they paid their green fee though before they played. Think of the 10% as your green fee.

Good point Dazza, but that is why everyone here tells me i am paying these exorbitantly high prices for sleeves of virtual balls, they liken it to a greens fee, rather than paying monthly or membership fees, so that's what i always thought i was doing

Don't expect it to change, nor does it affect me much, i don't do challenge matches

Just in a particularly feisty mood tonight and felt like stirring the pot a bit

PS and how come i only have to pay this "greens fees" when i have credits on the line, but not in free matches

Or transaction fee.  WGT holds and transfers credits for you.  Or else you would have to be chasing down other players for payment.

WGTdbloshoe, why does the FAQ state that the maximum rake for WGT is 175 credits, when in fact you take 400 credits for a 4,000 credit bet?

Thanks for any clarification you can provide.

Gotta appreciate a guy in a feisty mood.  WGTdbloshoe beat me to it but bank fees, ATM fees, service fees, even Ebay comes to mind.  Sort of a clearinghouse fee, to make sure the winner gets paid.

kinda makes sense, but just so we are clear i hate banks too for all their fees, but just like WGT and their vig, they re a necessary "evil"

    That's right I said it

Nor am I fond of banks.  I work the game so I pay no fees, other than for new checks.  Guess we don't have that opportunity with WGT.  Both you and I don't play challenge matches so we can stand back and smirk.  jsweetcr, ya wanna go at it in match play for a few bucks?!
