Are you suggesting that the speeds should be marked up or not?

You'd have to know while on the tee...at a minimum on your approach shots..as say #15 at BPB...slow greens won't come back down unless you nail a full BS shot...where on champ...you can toss it up with neutral spin...use too much spin, and find yourself down at the bottom on the fringe.

Many holes play like that...and since pitches, chips, etc are so green speed dependent...you have to know in advance

The thought that I had was rather simple ( I think ). I am not sure how difficult it would be from a programming standpoint, but I would like to see Random Green Speeds. For example, you find the green on Hole #1 and face Very Fast Greens. However, when you reach the green on Hole #2, you are now facing Slow Greens. Then on Hole #3, you find yourself facing Tournament Speed Greens.

Have you played the Legend tournament at Merion w uneven lies?

The green speeds are exactly as you want in your post, but they are all labeled tournament. LOL

I can get through the the unbelievable variations in the uneven lies, but the green speed variations are flat out impossible to play.

    TopShelf2010:

Good day everyone. I hope all is well with everyone. I was hoping to find some thoughts and opinions from all of you.

There has always been the discussion regarding More Courses. I for one would love to see that happen, and in due time, I am quite sure it will. But that is nor what I would like to talk about here. I would like to discuss what we already have in place.

I thought this would make what we already have a little more interesting. In addition to the challenges, it would give everyone a chance to learn about the various green speeds that they might face in future games.

Any thoughts and opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your time and have a great weekend everyone.

I like the idea and I'm always interested in making the game more challenging. As long as we have an idea of the green speed for an upcoming green, I would play in this manner all I could get. Playing at Legend Tier I really would like to have more opportunities to play on Championship Speed Greens. Perhaps have only 3 green speeds in play during a round. 1 higher if possible and then the current one per tier and the one slower. I think that would mimic to a greater degree the slight differences in green speeds on a single course without going from one extreme to the other.

Punch in the codes and let's play this thing. :)

I think green speed should be based on tier.

If you go to your local course, and play a solo round, or get paired with a pro or total hack, the greens are not going to change for anyone.  Each player would get whatever the green conditions were that particular day.

Heck, the same could be said for the wind.

    Just my opinion.

An alternative could be expanding the conditions, coming up with more combinations. Links used to name their conditions for each game with 3 factors-green speed, green hardness and wind strength. Each factor had 3 settings so there was 27 different combinations! Soft, medium, hard greens; slow, medium, fast speeds; low, medium, high winds. You would see something like  M-S-H and know it was medium hardness for the landing, slow speed once on the green and then the wind strength.

Tournaments with random conditions would be all over the place and you'd really have to have your wits about you and pay attention..  :-)

There are a few of us (below the level of Legend) out here in WGTland, who find the current game challenging enough.

Can you divine my thoughts about this idea?

If by divine, you are referring to the Supreme Being, he is not a member of the WGT golf organization.
