So if my putt is 18 ft, not uphll or downhill, and i am using the bar that is marked '30 ft' and i move my pointer to just under half of that bar, my math says it would be around 15 or so that i'd hit it.  So when i hit it past the hole... how does that work?  What a joke of a game.  I've tried it a few different times and it blows my mind how inconsistent it is.

The green speed you were playing is the key, and some holes will have an elevation change just before or after the hole.

The meter isn'l linear. Working out your own scale for each of the 7 different green speeds would be advisable or use pecentages.
