Kat,  the current, purely 'level' based system obviously penalizes people with your "skill set".  Your proposal isn't greatly different from Lonnie's - but the 'trigger' for better equipment must primarily rely on tiers in order to let better players compete against each other. While it would be nice for me to have a L 93/98 R1 - I don't really need it until I have to play from the back tees (I am L83). In my own poor way, I am competitive at my level. The current system only encourages sandbagging - for those who wish to do so - by letting them 'level-up' without 'tiering-up', get getter gear and poach on less skilled players.

ksinfield - you are a tier higher than me so you obviously have learned how to apply your clubs and putter.  The equipment, like a hammer and saw to a carpenter, is only a bag full of paperweights until skillfully applied. Your skill that brought your average low enough to make TM - not the equipment.

Some folks, like Kat, develop awesome skills, early on and pull away from the rest of us. Others, like me just 'plod along', getting better slowly. She made Legend with gear inferior to what is in your bag now.

The point is,  that for Kat compete with Legends, she needs better gear now.  At my level - better gear would be nice to have but not necessary. to compete at the M/TM level. For this reason, emphasizing tiers seems more equitable to me.

After reading everyone's argument regarding this topic, I think the "tier or level" is the best distribution method.  Now will WGT actually incorporate this?  Only time will tell.

It will remain Level based - a sales thing! Maybe a new tier to allow the inability to compete gripe to go away is something to consider.  WGT have the numbers on critical mass.........

    Jim, unfortunately,  I agree!

I do not think that WGT  totally ignores the suggestions of its members - few business can afford to do so.

But unless more members of the community speak out on this topic (in this thread), they will shrug this off as another meaningless rant.

It actually seems like WGT is losing money by having their equipment level based only.  How many Legends are playing day after day to level up for better equipment, even though they know it's months before they reach that level?  How many lower tiered players are playing to level up for better equipment, and how many would jump on the chance to buy equipment currently not available to them?

I'm sure changing from just "level based distribution" to "level or tier distribution" would bring a quick influx of cash to WGT.  The question then becomes, if all legend players were able to buy all of the equipment, why would they keep playing this game?  Maybe, like real golf, because it's the greatest game on earth.

You're not taking balls into the calculation. Leveling up uses loads of them.

It's been done so many times this one.  WGT seem to take the view that exposing every one to equipment despite, "perceived ability" is the way to go. How many Legends have bought the G20s then the R11 then R11s driver  then and as said above balls (to do do best I would add as my opinion) ............Irons also = how many Bladez then also the R11 set. WGT like the level system, and where you allowed access to everything I am sure you would go straight to the best sets and not bother trying the others. However you are only offered the next or nearly next best on the journey until you are finally allowed the best.  Basically they are more likely to get more out of you under the current regime they have decided. Now how many are they losing because they can't be bothered doing all that is a constant (and worthy IMO) argument..............Without all those figures in front of us we can't say. Before I got to TL I used to say at least open up everything to that but they won't do that period. There is no harm in offering WGT your thought's but that is how it is as it stands.............I made Legend in the late 60s I think and doing it with the equipment I have now is more fun and effective, and so see your point....................My point was a pragmatic one aimed at allowing new Legends to still compete in a tier on an obviously level field whilt learning the new more difficult game, so taking that gripe away whilst allowing WGT the sales from the level system............None of us have exact figures though, and as I say without those it's impossible to say what could be done whilst still maximising the all important bottom line profit :)

This just might be a bit of blonde economics, so please straighten me out if my logic is flawed.  I'm currently spending 250 credits for a sleeve of balls.  I won't even bother to upgrade until I can get a ball that is available at level 81.  The cost for those balls is 550 credits per sleeve.  Now here's where my dingy blonde logic gets me confused with your statement. Since it will be a while before I can buy these better balls, isn't WGT losing 300 credits every time I buy a sleeve of the balls I'm using?

I have had my dingy moments, but it seems like my argument is pretty sound here with regards to WGT losing money.  But then again, it is merely "potential" gains.

No offense meant, but I've been down that road and have chosen to wait until I can get what I want now.  When I started, I bought the lower level R1 driver, the lower level Rocketbladez and the lower level Spider putter.  Since I also play real golf, I would say to those who would listen, the lower level clubs must be the worn out clubs others have used ... there's absolutely no grooves left.  You can forget about backspin or checking a ball with the lower level Rocketbladez.  I did buy the R11's at level 32 and the Odyssey Versa putter and have stuck with them until I could get the clubs I felt would be my best option.  (Hence the R1 driver and the G20 irons).

So while your statement is more than likely true to the masses, I simply won't settle for inferior equipment along the way.  I will hold out for the clubs I want!

By the way, I noticed you (Jimbog1964) made Tour Legend this month ... you've inspired me to see if I can at least tier up to Tour Legend in 8 months.  That's what will keep me going until I can upgrade what I've got with what I want!
