The formula, that I use to use when I stop playing the game 2 years ago, isn't reliable in the game today.  After I used my old formula recently, I noticed downhill putts are too long, and uphill putts were short.  Yet flat putts were the perfect distance.

After Several games of me changing my formula to be more reliable, It's just not working out.  Please lend me help by telling me a reliable accurate putt distance formula.

Old tournament formula 2 years ago: (putt distance +/- elevation) divided by 1.3

New tournament formula that doesn't work: (putt distance divided by 1.3) +/- elevation

Reworked tournament formula that doesn't wok: (putt distance divided by 1.3) +/- elevation + 1 or 2 feet

V fast = dist x 85% then +/- elevation.  Will need ease of for long putts / adjust for day of week / course.  You also need to know your putter but that's close..........

Yes, and when did they last mow the green.

    That's a leg pull - LOL

SgtBilko & friends wrote a putting program and a wind calculator program that will run on Windows based machines. Here is the link: https://sites.google.com/site/bilkosputterpal/ and here is the thread discussing them: http://www.wgt.com/forums/t/145432.aspx

He also produced an earlier version, in chart form. Send me a friend request & I'll e-mail it to you (can't figure out how to attach it here).

    Hope this helps!

I'm not a great player, but this formula seems to work pretty well:

    Very Fast:  (feet to cup - 20%) + 2ft + or - (elev x 1ft)

    Tournament:  (feet  to cup - 30%) + 1ft + or - (elev x 1ft)

    Hope this helps.

Just a word about the above chart.

I believe that this one was generated from earlier work from Sgt Bilko. For whatever reason, the current WGT greens tend to be faster than these charts indicate - E.G. if  WGT calls the greens 'Very Fast' and you use the 'Very Fast' figures above (and miss) - your ball will roll a long way past the cup.

I have found that using the figures '1 step less' that WGT  gets you closer to what you want (but still just a bit strong). So, if WGT says 'Very Fast' use the 'Fast' figures.

    Good Luck!

Hi Wooot, I use this one and works for me.

Fast = -10% of stated distance +/- elevation and then add 2 feet

Very Fast = -20% of stated distance +/- elevation and then add 2 feet

Tournament = -30% of stated distance +/- elevation and then add 2 feet

Championship = -35% of stated distance +/- elevation and then add 2 feet

Give it a try, may work for you.

    Regards

Just to prove how fickle this putting lark is here are my figures for calcing distance

Fast  -10% but only over 10 feet, otherwise i hit the full putt distance

Minimal if any adjustment required for downhill putts

    Vfast - 15%

Maybe 1 foot less for downhillers

    Legend Regular 25%

    ---"---      Tourney 271/2%

Downhill, another 10% off or 1 foot per 10 feet of putt

    Championship 33%

    Downhillers,-  don't go there
