What is a "shill"?

  Hello there, everybody! I just started playing this game a week ago on a recommendation from a friend, and as an avid golfer (3+ times per week) I have to say this game is quite fun, well designed, and presents many of the same challenges real golf does.
  
  However, in a recent skins game a guy who was level 90-something and a 'Master' called me a "shill" after I made a couple of long (30'+) putts for skins. Then he spent the rest of the round berating me about being "phony" and "a shill".

  What was he accusing me of? Was he suggesting I was cheating? Is cheating even possible? Heck, I haven't even bought any credits.

  Now that you have given me context, I am guessing that is exactly what he was suggesting. 
  
  Oh well. I am 39 years old, been playing online video games since Counterstrike, and if there is one thing I have learned it is that nobody in the history of the Internet has ever been beaten by someone who simply played better than they did.
  
  Best part was: On the putts he was upset about, I misread both, then missed the center of the meter and made them both by pretty much pure luck. I played Links, every version of Tiger Woods ... doing math on a 3 click swing isn't tough lol.

               Well ,I have to one agree @ Scott ,but each of feel when anyone here feels / see when anyone who cheats to this will somehow find some source on anyone here will never END ,cause some how they / whoever will find some source of to achieve for their benefits which is NOT THE RIGHT WAY . But you never know who it is ? thats the way we all see it .

                But ,who's to say when anyone here will chase anyone here to WHO's CHEATING will never know ? Thats my point of view ,each to it's own just sayin ? But hey WHO CARES IT ONLY GAME. But everyone here takes it too well .

                I should know ,I @ some will ,but will let it go only game trust me to take it for what it is ?

  For starters, he used the term shill wrong. A shill is a person used to suck you in so you can be taken advantage of by something or somebody else. The shill is the accomplice. What it sounds like he was trying to do was accuse you of being a sandbagger. An experienced player skulking around levels he has no business being in because they carefully avoid levelling up.

  A level 90-something Master is a pretty good indication of one of two things-either the player isn't very good or is on the sandbagging path. And what is a level 90 Master doing playing a level 26 Pro? Then again, a level 26 Pro that sinks 30+ putts does look a little suspicious to some. Take it for what it's worth.

  In Vegas a shill is someone who is supplied chips by the house to fill empty seats at the poker tables...so yeah, your opponent wasn't using the term correctly.

  Not only that, he was a sore loser.
