That would be 32 to the 8th power, or 109,995,111,628,000 (if I didn't fry my calculator in the process.)  That's almost 110 trillion club set combinations, not including woods, wedges and putters.  And let's not forget the possible permutations involving carrying multiple irons of the same number; i.e. two 5-irons and such.

Somehow I don't see that happening anytime soon.

I also don't see much reason why it should happen to be honest.  Is the issue being able to have a 2 iron or more wedges?  The R11 3 iron will easily go 230-240 with neutral wind, that already takes it into 3 wood territory so I'm not sure how useful a 2 iron would be.  And 3 wedges offer as many shots as 99% of us could wish for.  Played full power mine cover everything from 40 to 100 yards just using full and punch shots.  Add in flop and pitch and different amounts of top or back spin and you really don't need any more.

People already complain about some clubs in a set playing unpredictably, can you imagine what it might be like if every single one was individually programmed?  I know they should all be the same but bear in mind where we are.

Personally, I think the popular choice would be what most people in real life are doing.....swapping out long irons for hybrids.  They hit higher, land softer, and hit better from the rough.  I know I would experiment with swapping my 3i out and subbing in the 3h.  This would sell more clubs since we are buying a 3i we don't even use and buying a 3h on top of it all, too.

I'd love to swap my 3iron for the R11 hybrid and the PW for the 115yd cleveland.
