Maybe someone could explain to me how a sand wedge with a max distance of 70 yards can be hit perfect, 71 yards out, with backspin, onto an uphill green and with a 9 mph head wind and yet travel 79 yards? or how a drive hit perfectly into a 17 mph cross wind is not affected what so ever by the wind? or my final one how when I have 56 yards to the pin with a 7 mph tail wind and backspin used the ball hits the green and rolls 15 yards yet when I have 48 yards to the pin with a 6 mph head wind and forward spin used the ball hits the green 8 yards short and stops dead? I have had many other similar issues including putting but can't be bothered explaining them all other than to say, whilst the game is fun and a good it is as close to the real thing as a donkey is to a shark.

Right! because in Australia we hit meters not yards and my clubs hit further and I play off a handicap of 4. So yes, as a NOOB to online games I finally found one that is interesting enough for me to play. The problem is that I believed the hype about this game "The closest game to the real thing" and that simply is not true. Unlike your type I have a real life and don't play online games often, so I am a NOOB to online games. As I said I still find the game challenging and fun, just wondering if there is a reason for the anomaly and how to combat it. Ad vice is what I was after, not ridicule from a nerd.

Honestly Steve, is that all you have? Is that your attempt at offering friendly advice? It is of little wonder most other countries have such little time for Americans with people like you providing their reputation.

I ask myself that question each and every time I feel I've hit my drive to the perfect approach shot, only to find the approach sailing over the hole and/or past the hole when it simply shouldn't.  It isn't a lack of practice or a bad shot ... more like some WGT added VEM to keep my score high.  It's almost like, why bother setting up an approach shot when it's simply going to get messed with by a bit of programming humor.

Like you, WBob, I also have a low handicap in real golf, and while this game isn't anywhere near close to the real game, it does have some pretty good qualities like the real deal.  Holing a shot from 60+ yards out or sinking a 30' putt still gives you that same, "real golf" feeling!

So while WGT continues to mess with wind powers and green speeds, it is still a pretty good game, played by many real good people.  With that said, there's also those dingbats who will rag you for making an observation ... I consider them those same jerks that won't fix their ball marks or divots they make as they play the real game.  Pretty much foot fungus, IMO!

    Gday Bob,

First a comment Steve made, slightly an underarm comment lol. Personally I would watch the ashes, but sadly if I blink the Australian Innings is over!

But the problem you have is the starter wedges are akin to using a hose with a clubhead attached to it - they are garbage and the worst clubs in the game, They are notoriously inconsistent and innacurate. Secondly the starters balls will not get any bite, regardless of the backspin you apply, especially with those wedges. Playing to an elevated green you will get a lot more roll out when the ball lands - like you would in real life.

Again the starters putter is neither precise or forgiving, but putting on this game is consistent usually.

It takes a lot of learning and certainly better clubs help massively, but even then takes a lot of practice.

Yes it is only a game and can only attempt to simulate real golf. The HD pictures are realistic but of course you have many limitations in this game than you do on the real course (especially stance, swing, grip which are always the same).

But it is by far the best golf game on the market, and is the hardest to master, but if if was too easy we would get bored quickly and leave.

AMEN thank you DaddysKat for the humble and honest reply. I am glad that I am not alone and just being a NOOB. It is a really good game and I really do enjoy it and I too have had some of those fist pumping moments just as you do in real golf. It is always nice to converse with someone of obvious intelligence and empathy. We have bigger problems here in Australia such as the inconsiderate that will leave their beer bottles on the tee whilst a rubbish bin sits 2 foot away as well as the divot demons and ball mark ball bags lol. Straight shooting to you mate and thank you.
