Dropping Your Ball

  Was playing Merion earlier this afternoon. My second shot on one hole on the back nine wound up in a place that no man in real life would even contemplate going into to even LOOK for a golf ball... much less hit one. If I could have picked up my ball and dropped it somewhere and taken the penalty stroke I wouldn't have wound up taking a TEN on that hole. Every time I hit the ball... it went zero yards. I tried to hit it forward... sideways... and even back the direction I came from..... hit, hit, hit, hit.... zero yards. I was 3 under at that point on the back nine...Why is there not an option of taking a drop at a location of your own choice in situations like this. Totally not fair!

  hi

  it's hard to judge without pictures/replays but how did u get there?:)

  and did you try always going for the flag? many times you can hit backwards or sideways to get out.

  right now, we do not have drop option. i don't know when or if we will, so I would recommend the options above.

  Well, wgticon, you might note the "G" in the website name stands for "golf"; drops are a part of golf. I would understand if the game were new, but why are we not conforming to the rules of golf by now?

  There are some awful spots on Merion where you get 80% rough. A grenade wouldn't shift your ball from there.

  hi,

  well in this situation used 9 iron with punch shot ..take arrow mark on safe fairway....or try wedge with punch shot it really helps a lots...

  I have had this happen to me on several occasions at St Andys as well as Kiawah Island and it really irritates me cause like  CliffyK50  I was under par or near par  too  I tried different clubs different directions nothing till Max shots reached   then I was at 6 or 7over .  so their is the credibility  factor that there is a problem with this ongoing  situation

  Cliffy.. im no expert here but have found the punch shot is genrally the go to shot for deep rough. I may stand corrected by a better player,If you are in CC ask one of your top players what they would have played.

  In a more general way, there are no options at all while playing the game, except for "end game / forfeit" etc.

  IMNSHO there will never be an "unplayable" option in this game.

  PUNCH IT !!!!!!!!!!!! ...

  with sand W or PW ...nothing more... sideways or shortest dist to fairway...

  If I EVER get into that situation again... and I hope I NEVER do... I'll try to punch it.  Let's hope it works.... and if It does.. I'll let you know.
