Good Morning,
well firstly I would get an iron set with a little more precision and higher trajectory.
If low on finances these would be ideal for the time; I have gifted these to 2 players and they both went on to Tour Pro and above using them. In fact the only High Trajectory irons in this level category.

Secondly I would start using WGT balls with at least 1 dot of spin or more to be able to stick the ball upon landing. These are rather inexpensive but good all around balls. I still use them with my level 59+ G20 irons.

These balls will enhance the amount of spin when you apply backspin to your swing.
I have recently gifted these irons to a friend and he went from Tour Pro to Master using them. And they are fairly forgiving and with decent precision.
Also don't forget using the dot on your ball for Top spin (adds yardage) back spin ( sticks the ball when used with balls that have spin; but also decreases the yardage- know when to use it) No Spin (in the center- more roll out on landing, but can stop on a dime when using balls that have both spin and feel)
Hope this helps
And don't forget to look at the replays of some of the top players on here as well. You can learn a lot by watching their shots. My friend Legendcrusher even has a website with all of his replays and golf sessions; you can find that topic as well in the forums.
