I have not used the anser or redwood but since i swithced from the spider to the daytona, my putting has improved by leaps and bounds. Use the spider as a hat rack only

Tracy, be sure to read putting tips in the faq's. There is some outstanding info there. Reading breaks takes alot of experiance. Getting your distances perfect is very important  read putting distance control by nivlac

1..Daytona rossa....while the meter increments are not as handy as the redwood, with my putting method I l;ike the Daytonas better.. My favorite reason is the meter speed, fol;l;owed by the precision.

    just my two cents.....

I just bought the Redwood several days ago.  Moved up from the spyder.  Used it for 4 days and played over 20 ranked rounds with quite a few practice rounds thrown in.

My scores rose like an elevator on steroids.  The precision is nice....but the killer for me is the increase in meter speed and the lack of ability to consistently ding the putt.  Made no difference if I was 30 feet or 3 feet....the inability to "Ding" a putt caused my average to soar.  After a final round at BethPage....(which I can consistently shoot 35) and carding a 42 after numerous 3 and 4 putts on 4 foot or less shots, I put the Redwood in the closet and broke out the old Spyder.  My scores are now back to where they are supposed to be....hell, I just got paid for a 4th place finish in the Oakmont Ready-Go tourney.

My point is.....for some of us older players.....hitting the "ding" is the biggest challenge.  We can read the green pretty good....judge the break....know the distance....but can't "ding" the putt so it takes a ride to God knows where.

I would suggest you rent the club before you buy.  I have a 600 credit Redwood that I doubt I will ever use now....and hate the idea of selling it for 1/6th of it's cost.

The grass may look greener on the other side of the fences....but that's because they are using horse manure to fertilize it.

I must first give credit where credit is due---this was suggested to me by YankJim as I am having the same trouble with the Redwood's cheaper cousin the Anser. He told me to try putting using a higher meter,ex: using the 60ft meter over the 15ft meter on my Anser. This gives you a shorter meter swing and gives you a better chance to hit the ding. I won't say I'm sinking every putt, but I will say that it has helped my putting a lot. Give it a try.

it is a personal choice of course!!! but I will say this!!! both here and in real life...what type of putter do you normally get with a beginners set...I know this might be off the beaten path just a bit...but even if you went to a minature golf course..what selection would you have in putters...Chances are it would be a blade type putter (only)...so personally I prefer blade style putters...they are truly more reliable...here and in real life...however I know things are improved over time...well I've tried them all here and this is what I would offer as advise...the first chance you get at a lower level...#1 buy the Ping Anser..it will serve you well...in all area (especially if you golf for real and you can putt for real) meter speed-precision-forgiveness, balance & increment markings as well...and KEEP it...even if you decide to buy a so-called better rated putter...#2 after the 'Ping Anser' the first chance I would get to buy the 'Ping Redwood (not the one on level 72) I would (but don't sell off the 'Ping Anser' just yet)...this is a GREAT putter for all It does and it does not matter on your tier or anything like that...and on both of those putters the 'Anser & the 'Redwood the price is way more than fair for what you'll get in return as a way of results...but more important the transition from the 'Anser' to the 'Redwood' is very smooth ...the accuracy, forgiveness, balance, meter increments are all a plus with this putter!! Plus it has the same swing speed as the Anser...and that is important when changing clubs period!!! if you were to check my bag and stored equipment...you will notice that I try to keep all of my drivers, fairway woods, Irons & Wedges all in the same swing speed...well the same applies to putters...and that is why I'm having a little more difficulty with this new transition...even though it's From a 'Ping Redwood' to a 'Ping Redwood' that 'SWING SPEED' makes all the diffrence in the world...as of this post I just went to level 72 and updated to the quote/unquote top of the line 'Ping Redwood' I've only used it in 5 rounds of golf so far...it's early but the results haven't been that great...+4...+2...-1 (on the last hole I birdied)...even par & even par...but I will say this it is very hard to catch the center line...compared to my earlier 'Ping Redwood' and of course I still have it (my older 'Ping Redwood') just in case I want to go back to consistently shooting -3 to -5 every or every other round of golf that I play...once you find that the earlier model 'Ping Redwood will serve you well...the only way I would sell off the 'Ping Anser' is to help me with My purchase of either a Rossa or Daytona (which also I rate as excellent putters)...but for all of those big headed putters...why don't you just get a 'Hockey Stick' and putt with that!!! with a 64 Average as a 'Tour Pro' tier Player at level 50 I was 'booted' up to the 'Master' tier (and since my level...50..was so low I didn't have the clubs to compete from the much further back tees that I now had to tee off from so I had to make up with a lot of one putted greens ...no matter how close or far away from the cup I was...because I often was no longer able to reach greens consistently in regulation and the 'Redwood' Served me well!!!) which is where I now sit at level 73 'Master' Tier.. 66.1 average (basically all acquired via the 'Ping Redwood') if you don't believe me we can play two seperate 9-hole rounds..one with me using the 'Supposedly better Ping Redwood' & the other using my earlier 'Ping Redwood' and you will see the big difference...and if you bring one of those big headed monsters 'I WILL 'PUTT' YOU INTO THE GROUND !!!
