    BubbaSauce:

    The point is realism.

In real life, say you can hit your 5-iron 150 yards. When you're faced with a 140-yard shot, how do you know how much to alter your swing? You don't, unless you've done it enough times.

Same goes for this game. Learn from experience, just like you would on the golf course.

    Play on.

Afraid the point with regards this game IMO  is most certainly not 'realism'.

It's an online golf game, no more no less............ unless you, or someone you know, are hitting low 50's regularly for 18 holes in RL.

For added 'realism' I tend to play a round on WGT's uneven lies.... blindfolded. Way more closer to my real life attempts.

    Happy hittin',

    Johnny.

Ok I have a question also. When putting on tournament greens I calculate my putt as follows: distance x .8 then either add the amount if it's going up hill or subtract if it's going down hill to decide how much speed I want my putt to experience. So what are the mathematical steps I must do in order to calculate the other green speeds? Thank you in advance for all your input. Have a super day on the links!

Try the search box over there >>>>>>>

You'll find plenty of threads containing advice, albeit varied,  re different green speeds.

Here's what typing 'putting tips' into the search box throws up.

There are a few ways to calculate your distances. This is what I use based on what I have learned from others awhile ago. I am not one of the better putters but I do know how consistently leave my misses close on misreads on a majority of putting distances.

    Distance +or - Elevation x Factor

    Factors= Slow ; 1.15,  Standard; 1.05, Fast; .98, Very Fast;  .89, TM Tourney .80, Legend .77, T Legend .73

Sometimes wgt plays with the speeds so you have to adjust the factors when that happens or add/subtract a foot or two from your distance.

One key from Stonecold....Read past the hole and use the greatest amount of elevation from that.

Another key... If you have severe down hill elevation of - 4 or more back off the factors.

IE; if your playing legend greens and you have a downslope of lets say -5, I drop .5 off my factor to compensate. You have to play with how much to take off to get it right for your putter/ball combination.

    Full ACK!

In the real game we use practice to set up "muscle memory" which is of course controlled by our brain. The memory of certain shots' practice helps to perform the shot at hand by repeating the same muscle action. These are the best shots, when you inhale all sensoric information of the ambience, make a decision, then switch of concious thinking and let the body do the work.

The virtual game is different: muscle action is only at the mouse, and sensoric is naught. All is in numbers, distance, wind, elevation, lie...

This is another space of activity. To handle data, I need calculation, and I need to measure shot strength for reasonable results => a putting table, a ruler.

I am not great but play well . I use to use so many charts, excell programs, rulers.  Then one day it all came together.  I dont have to use anything now.

Putting was the worst, but now I love it because I can just fell the putt.  Sounds crazy I know.  But I have put in alot of practice.  Putting is what I love the most.

All the helps are great, and helped me very much from hack to pro. but when you can putt and do your approach shot, flop shot, pitch by feel the game is enhanced.
