YankeeJim:One rough "quickie estimate" that has always worked for me is to add 1 club to whatever the caddie suggests for 30/40 and 2 clubs for 40/50. This isn't exact and is for approach shots but will definitely get the right club in your hands for a full swing.
+1! Speaking of long punches, I give a tad less from 40/50, but that's marginal.
Less addition for the short clubs up to I9, gradually growing with length.
Other "rules" for me are, no 3WD from 40/50 (I don't carry the hybrid), and a special regard to the ball's track. These rescue punches will travel carry only 50%(?), therefore it's essential to have fairway available on the second half. Take the pill, play shorter if necessary, but put yourself into a good position for the next shot. The punch will also follow the track's contour with every bump, visualize this (e.g. BPB#13 with a good depression at the left-hand FW bunker).
