Yesterday when I was playing my round with Dazza I started to think(it happens).

How cool wouldnt it be if WGT would sell us some Hickory clubs with old time balls to match.

And to add some flavour, give us a hickory average just to keep it clear from the normal dart shooting :)

Like this complete reproduction of the clubs Bobby Jones

carried during his 1930 Grand Slam.   Only $3059.00

Or perhaps some even older ones.

NOW this is a COOL set of clubs. How awesome would it be to play with those,,,lol. Cool stuff my friend.

    hyena64,

I'm glad you brought this up. The courses we're playing were designed for those clubs to be used by the best Golf Professionals. They're all old Courses and certain shots were designed to be played to get the best out of those kinds of sticks and the natural design of the courses. Run up shots are needed at a lot of the courses as well as working the ball side to side. We use the lie as a way to work the ball. Olympic has several holes where the natural layout creates the perfect shot to be played. Also, there's holes where the lie creates the exact opposite shot that's needed. Those are our par holes where we're suppose to just be happy to get off the green. There's a 5 hole stretch on Olympic where the fairway lies direct the ball to the hole naturally. That's where we need to attack. Feeling the natural layout and using it is the only way to get something out of our rounds with these sticks. Respecting the natural defenses of these old tracks is paramount to scoring decent and not getting shaken by bogeys. The course has to get it's due so we just tip the cap and move on. The idea of Toughing It Out is based on the idea that we need to respect what's in front of us and take some lumps in the process. The good club and ball dart game doesn't show any respect to these great old courses IMO.

Good Luck and Have Fun everyone. I'm really looking forward to my round today.:)

    Matilda,

This is exactly what I'm thinking every time I'm playing with starter clubs in UL. It's like a trip back in time using hickory sticks and some old beat up ball. Birdies are fun to get but making a great recovery shot for a hard par is what I treasure the most. Looking back at your round on RSG, you defeated the natural defenses of the course and came out even with the course and it's designer. I know you had to be playing old style shots to get it done and the course had to throw up some stiff challenges as that's how it's designed.

Shooting even par with these sticks is WINNING!!! ;)
