Ok, the reason I am posting this is I feel the game is unfair at time's.

You can hit a shot same conditions, lie, club, and get totally different outcomes.  So trying to get some consistencey is impossible.

Same on the greens, fast , slow, standard, doesn't matter, you can have a down hill putt of 10 feet hit it the same way 10 times and have the ball go different distances, this shouldn't happen.

I understand there are penalties for mishits and such, but come on, fix the bug's or something.

It ruins a very good game.

Aside from your driver, the clubs in your bag don't exactly have good precision so you have to expect the occasional iffy result from them.  Precision is the key to consistent results!  When you level up some more you'll unlock higher precision clubs and if you use them, your results will get less iffy.  You might not ever be able to fully remove that element of random from the game, but there's a big difference between 2 dots and 4 dots of precision.

Also, are you completely sure that you're hitting the exact same shot in the exact same conditions?  It's hard to perfectly replicate shots, especially when you're just starting out.  I'm sure that with some more practice you'll be able to get more consistent results just by being able to hit the ding more.

There is an in-built variation in the game, and quite rightly so. If you hit the ball twice or even more from the same spot in the same conditions the ball would land differently, as it would in real life. That said we all get the occasional shot that bares no resemblance to the shot played but a computer game on Flash will never be perfect.

100% agreed with Jay and the more precise the clubs, the more consistent results you will see. But also bear in mind, on a real golf course you will never exactly replicate the exact same shot, even if you hit 30 shots from the sam location there will usually be variation on the result even if your swing is very consistent.

On the putting, this is proabably the hardest aspect of the game to master, and each change in green speed brings a new learning curve. Some players use the avatar method, some use calculations, but whichever you use learn it well as the greens are remarkably consistent in there set speeds.

There is only one way to get better at this game and that is practice, practice and more practice/ Then when you have done that practice some more!

Complete bloody joke all of that above blurb.. If you invest time and money into a project you expect to see a return on your investment...not just watch your average flitter away by some program that can randomly knick shots of u at will and destroy an under par round to a Bogey round in 2 shots..Because wgt cant add up..or use a fairness constraint in there programming.. This game used to be about Fairness and control..not guessing when they initiate an underground VEM into it. Winds are not accurate anymore putting calculations are way off on 3 of the courses and championship speed greens are a mindfield of complete Bollox.

    +1 to all :)

Let me add that they quite successfully hide that this is a computer game, because 1+1 is only approximately 2 here.

Variation will diminuish with better equipment, consistency will be supported by practice - your current experience provides you with broad capacities of improvement ;)

    too true ..

FWIW, after all this time, putting is still the one aspect where i keep on learning & figurimg things on a daily basis .. this can easily been seen off the putting stats % for puts between 5 - 10 ft from even the top players ..

practice practice parctice cannot be overstated .. don't expect to get really good at this over a couple of months .. the learning curve is steep & frustrating at times at each new tier .. but the results are often rewarding

What highlights this more is when you get the random excellent round, everything thing goes right, irons are spot on, wedges and putter are laser guided it seems.

False sense of security, we then think , yes , we've cracked it, till the very next game of course.

I, like Ms Fish think this variance is what keeps us coming back and stops the game becoming stale and predictable.

Thank you, all for the great reply's.  I guess my biggest fault is getting frustrated with not understanding the reason a shot turns out poorly.
