While living in Augusta for seveal years, I was fortunate enough to become friends with the Commanding General at Ft. Gordon where I worked. Through him, I was able to be an inside the ropes volunteer during the Masters. A select group of volunteers are invited to play the course about 3 weeks after The Masters and I was one of those lucky few. I shot 82...with absolutely no gimme's or "preferred" lies, etc. Best round of golf in my life...not the best score, but, that wasn't important.  I've also been lucky enough to be a patron during 3 other Masters, the last one in 2004 when Lefty broke through, and I can tell you, in my opinion, it is the most pristine piece of sod on the planet....never a blade of grass...or pinestraw out of place....divots no where to be found....creeks and ponds as smooth as glass...the azalea's in full bloom. It is hallowed ground. One of the funny things about the place is that it is located in a less than desirable part of town...but, of course you never see that while watching on the television box. Was back in Augusta 2 weeks ago for a few days and drove by the gates just for a reminder. Most people also don't know that the course is closed during the summer months to everyone.

Augusta National on WGT would be nice...but, with all respect to their photography and digitising...they could never do it justice....and, what a shame it would be to see people shooting 58's on a virtual version of perfection....Almost seems like blasphemy....but, I'd play it anyway...who the heck I am kidding...
