How do you play St Georges 18th hole?

My drive was fine. I had about 130yds to hole. Took slightly longer club and added some backspin. I knew I had to stay right to avoid Duncan's Hollow. I was quite a few feet right of the hole, but somehow it found its way across the left and dribbled down into the hollow. Tried a flop shop up, not hard enough and I was back down in it again.

I ended up with a double bogey. My back nine was going okay until then.

I don't think I could have played my approach shot much further right.

How do you avoid the hollow?

    Any advice greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

I normally play for whatever wind is there,, then add a few more yards for safety.

Should leave decent putt for bird. In the case i mess it up and find the bottom i use pitch full spin.... if not holed tap in par.

    Tricky hole that needs respect.

    - play right of the flag, perhaps green center,

    - don't play long to avoid the drop in the back left and an ugly angle for the shot back up.

From the fringe, about pin-high, I play a pitch with 2 yds extra power, no bs.

Yep I play slightly right allowing for wind, and play an extra two or three yards. From there a 10 footer is holeable - but again if you do end off the green a pitch works for me. I have also had success with the flop but pitch with bs seems more reliable.

    A tricky finishing hole

L71 Nike and R11 9 iron that's 100% power/FBS exact IF zero wnd.  What calculation's did you use? what spin? Did you ding or miss left with wind??

Certainly left or long left is wrong as it's hollow time:

What power / spin?  From there it's about 12 yards from memory and up a bit (struggling remember exactly).  You need to get in practice mode and know what your CG64 pitches / flops exactly.  From that hollow (from memory) I allow about 12 yards and flop the CG64 FBS @ about 80% FBS that distance elevation there depending on wind - again from a bad memory.  I usually pitch but one hole I prefer a flop......

Honestly you need full yardage chart's if you do not have them.

You should also learn exactly what that CG64 does.

    Cheers

    Thanks, alanti.

Jimbog, 130 yds was approximate, I can't remember exactly. It was not quite full backspin and the ball landed far enough right of the hole, so I thought.

My flop shot is one of my best shots, play it all the time. I don't know the exact distance, but I never normally have trouble with it.

I don't have a yardage chart, only go by the yardage I see on the screen.

    Thanks for the advice.

I too have had many "Why the heck did it go down there" shots on that hole..

Watch the wind carefully off the tee, especially with a head wind...what you might notice is with a head wind it may be coming in at about 6:30...

Then you get to your approach shot and it appears to be dead straight...you need to realized that the camera angles are not dead in line...in the instance I just spoke of, if you hit at the stick, you wind up left of the hole and in the hollow.

Close putts are nice, but within 10-15 feet right of the hole and pin high-ish, isn't a tough putt there....no more than 4-6 inches of break.

Only took me two years to figure that hole out;)

That's much better than myself and #18 at Cabo. Just 4-putted that P.O.S. again. Quite sure I've got more 4-putts there than 1,2 and 3-putts combined. I dread that hole, ruins my round every time.

I intentionally hit short, then flop it from in front of the green.  Too much of a pain to miss either direction.
