Mmmm. Joined WGT last month as I like golf but a permanent back injury means that I can't physically play anymore.

Just a few thoughts now before I now cancel my membership so to speak.

    1. Why does both the physical game & WGT attract so many 'cheats'. Why do some submit poor score cards, to keep their handicap up, so that they can then 'win' a medal/competition - what possible pleasure or satisfaction can they possibly derive? And on 'here' - numerous people obviously re-register as a 'hack' when they're clearly not - again what possible pleasure can they derive (or is it just a lack of personal character?).

    2. The game has been created primarily as a business (ie. financial reward) & it's clearly the case that if you wish to 'progress' then you've got to pay. Well, hmm, no not me. If someone's daft enough to accept that they're only 'winning' due to the amount they've spent, then .... go do, but again where then is the satisfaction in that? I don't really know the answer to this one? - maybe WGT should 'reward' a little more to those who spend time on here as opposed to just monetary return. (I read a post on here from a guy who said he'd spent $500 on WGT - well more fool him for goodness sake - behave!).

    3. As with some 'forums', WGT does seem to attract odd-balls writing petty messages or replies as they've clearly got nothing better to do.

    4. Enjoyed it short term but now at a level when the only way to progress is to shell-out, which i'm not prepared to do. Those of you who do - enjoy.

Of course the game is a business, who would set one up to lose money? By the way there is no need to shell out, you can earn credits instead.

    Points 2 and 4 just aren't true, I haven't spent a penny on equipment -

    Point 3, guilty as charged.

If you put the words amount of credits before the word spent in this line then there is a lot of truth in it.  Having the best gear credits can buy is obviously going to give you a better chance of posting good scores.  And naturally, the best gear also costs the most.

However, you're clearly suggesting that only people who have put a lot of real money into the game can do well which is wrong.  As Courteney has already said, you can earn credits without having to pay for them.  Many people do this, they fund their game by watching videos, doing surveys etc.

There are also those who pick up the odd credits here and there to buy a cheap set and just play for fun.  Not everyone is looking to break 30/60 every round.

Ha, good catch there.  Makes a bit of a mockery of this statement doesn't it?

    Well spotted.

I wouldn't give up on the game just yet. I haven't put any real money in to this game either. I've invested my credits in some balls with added backspin but that's it. It's taken a couple of months, but I've progressed pretty well with what I've been given. It's a challenge and it's entertaining. What more do you want for free?

Having said that, I am contemplating spending $5 to get 500 credits so I can keep buying some better balls. The better balls has allowed me to have a better chance at stopping the ball on the green and thus, keeping me closer to the pin so I can have a chance at making some birdie putts. If I can improve my putting a little more, I'm confident I can shoot under-par most of the time. That's my goal. Just to know I can do better.

I'm not interested in the cheats. Yeah, they rob the rest of us of placing higher in tournaments which can return us some credits, but I'm not looking at this as a financial investment. Just a pleasurable one.

Relax. Have fun. Find some good friends you can play with and enjoy that aspect of it.

Adios. Arrivederci. Au revoir,  Mind the door knob on your way out .

Has it been an entire month? Or just a few weeks?

    WGT doesn't use handicaps.

People cheat in real golf, manipulate their handicap, and in a number of other ways try to appear less skilled than they really are, so why would you expect any different here in the online anonymity of the virtual golf world?

The more skilled one gets at playing WGT, the idea is the lower their stroke average becomes, and they get tiered up.

As players move up  the tiers the golf courses get longer, greens get faster, and the built-in tolerance for mis-hits gets reduced.

Which is what happens in real world golf, by use of the handicap system, and the greens keepers setting up a golf course for tournament play.

In real world golf the top players spend money on better equipment too.

On some 'forums', flounce posts like yours get deleted and the flouncer is permanently banned.

I've got better things to do, but I'll do the better things I still have on my  Do Today list later today.

Yes the clubs are mine, just to show that no spending is required to have good equipment.

for the OP-They are not magic wands though, the best equipment does not mean automatic sub 60's. My average and continuing struggle from the back tees testifies to that.
