Never heard the term dobbed.... is that what we yanks say   'Drop a dime on someone"

or "he was dimed out"  just currious about worldly slang.

    You would be correct :)

Another way of detecting cheats,is wait for them to trip themselves up by trying to pass on their cheat programme to the wrong person, who in turn dobbed them into WGT and are thankfully no longer welcome on this site LOL.

    Russell

You are correct Russell. Ratting yourself out is a little funny.

But..... in this particular instance, we had a few partners in crime. Just one of them was stupid enough to actually get caught, and even sadder is this was past on to them.

Shame of it all though..... is the rest of the partners are still having fun.

Kinda,, pizzes me off really.  Know what i mean??

I wonder how these people ding so often to make eagle.

    Competence

And many players don't even try to ding.

Instead they hit before or after the ding to compensate for wind and/or the break in the greens.

A key to making eagle is to get the approach shot close to, or in the hole.

Eagle on a par 3 is a hole-in-one. So par 3's aren't realistic eagle opportunities.

Eagle on a par 4 is a 2. Either drive the ball onto the green and 1 putt, or hole your approach shot.. There are some par 4's that are driveable from the tee, particular when driving with the wind.

The par 4 #9 on St.Andrews is usually a driveable green unless the wind is fairly strong and against the drive.

Eagles are most easily made on par 5's - Drive, 1 approach shot, 1 putt. = 3 and an Eagle.

Not all par 5's are realistic candidates for eagle, like BPB #4, but on the par 5's that are, I'm pretty disappointed if I don't hit my 1st approach shot on the green so I can putt for eagle. It may be a long putt for eagle, but it's still a putt for eagle and I've made long putts before.

To me, par on a par 5 is like bogey on a par 4.

In other words, I expect to birdie every par 5, and am unhappy when I make par on a par 5. If I make bogey (gasp) or worse (*** ME!) on a par 5, I. Am. Very. Disappointed. With. Myself.

'dobbed in' is a relatively mild and less common term in the UK these days but still popular in Australia I believe.

'grassed' or 'grassed up' is one you might here more often here.

then there's just 'telling on' or if you prefer 'dropping in the s**t'.

I thought the yanks use 'tattled'?

when we were kids we used the term "tattle tale" I don't know where the "tale" part f it originated. However now in the "slang" grown up world we say "Huey dimed out Louie"

Or "don't dime Dewey out"or you will b a rat,, thus  "ratting someone out" also,

I have never heard the grassed terms you used ever before. thanks for keeping me up on the current lingo.

Yep. Here kids refer to the dibber dobber LOL

Comin from the UK I still use it although can cause confusion here.  People here think Super Grass is something else and might even ask for some LOL.  OK a little facetious but get the picture:)

Yep being dropped in the brown and smelly must be universal I guess.
