LOL. Talk about memories. I saw Iron Butterfly when they were a garage band. It cost 50 cents to get into the Teen Center on Victory Blvd. in the San Fernando Valley in 1968 where they appeared locally. This was the place to party at the time and came complete with lava lamps and overhead projectors illuminating the walls with oil on a plate with colored water swished around-psychedelic was the word of the day.

My brother had the drum solo down pat and after imbibing the substance of choice would light a couple of cigarettes, put the record on, turn off the lights so it was pitch black and then proceed to follow the solo with his arms stretched high. All you saw was the glowing end of the cigarettes in perfect cadence that looked like it was being played on monstrous drums. It was hard to get the mind around the percption. Good times.  :-D

The place to go in the 60's in Chicago was the Kinetic Playground, aka Electric Theater when it first opened, on Clark St.

It had a large round open area with the stage and the walls around it were used for various projected psychedelic images. You'd sit or stand on the floor and they had dudes with the white fung-fu pajamas walking around so no one got out of hand. It also had a juice bar, no liquor, and some munchies were sold there.

My group of friends would be there most weekends as we didn't live but a couple of miles away. Saw a lot of the famous groups there, Iron Butterfly included, and some not so famous nation wide. I remember one New Years Eve we saw the Byrds, Fleetwood Mac, and Muddy Waters. I particularly remember the Byrds stunk as a live group, lol.

They had a local group, Rotary Connection, play there quite often. We used to see and talk with Minnie Riperton at the juice bar. Man what a sweet voice she had.

    Fun days.

    Thanks for the trip MB.

Got the old photo album from Woodstock out and just melted back to the real days.
