Has anyone else had this?
I won't specify a particular hole or course because it happens a lot. but one shot in particular, I was in a shallow bunker 31 yards from the pin, I tried a pitch shot with a 54 tour w wedge which should have gone 34 yards. I put the green dot in the center of the ball, full swing and the ball went 3 yards. WTF is going on? the ball was hardly in the sand too which is even more annoying. as I said this has happened a lot to me in the time I have been playing.
I also noticed that the free Halloween ball was a load of shite, it has 4.5 dots for distance instead of the 2 dots the srixon z star balls I currently have. but in a round on oakmont every shot came up short. with my ping g10 8.0 driver, the ball usually hits the ground at about 270 yards, more or less depending on wind strength and direction. but with this free ball it hardly reached 250 yards unless there was a strong tail wind. when it was taken out of play and replaced by the default balls, my distance and accuracy suddenly improved.also while using the free ball, the meter never stopped jumping which is something that hasn't happened to me for a long time.
I have had a lot of problems with this game in the past but nothing like this.
I copied and summarised this from another poster whose name I forget (so sorry I cannot credit your work). I almost always use a choked down full shot but it's the distance that matters, but DON'T try a chip, flop or pitch.

From 20% sand
I found that combined yardage (of
distance and elevation) of over 35yds where elevation exceeds 6ft needs 3 yards
added. (ball will roll further)
Over 35yds (combined) with elevation
lower than 6ft, add 4yds
Less than 35yds (combined) and
elevation is above 5ft, add 4yds
Less than 35yds and elevation is
below 5ft add 4/5yds.
So, to clarify. If the pin is 25yds
away and 4ft above your lie, 25+4+5 = 34yd swing.
Of course, uphill, downhill and
greens that break hard left or right will need to be adjusted to. I've also not
mentioned wind either. Unless your playing in high winds, these figures are
good in my experience.
From 40% sand
combined yardage of 20-30, add 12
combined yardage of 30-40, add 11.
combined yardage of 40-45, add 10
combined yardage over 45, add 9.
Again, compensate for your
surroundings.
60% sand lie
Combined yardage of below 30, add
16yds.
30-40, add 17.
40-50, add 18
over 50 combined yds, add 19.
I
tend to use full back spin on longer shots, where greens slope away from me and
on deep lies. All others, I place the dot where the sand meets the ball.
