So the company should rebuke some of their clients, causing them to quit for good? Never!

For a good reason, there is no rule against quitting.

And don't forget: It's but a computer game. Quitting is no offence against high society etiquette but the mere expression of "I don't like it any more". Don't expect too much respect for anonymous avatars from a gamer.

Disclaimer: I'm a golfer, I only quit for serious and unexpected reasons.

Another solution, perhaps, is a trap in the programming to catch an attempt to close the browser. Many ads trap this and question whether the user really wants to leave the page or stay. For WGT purposes this simple trap could release those who want to bail but not forfeit. This would save the bulk of the 2:30 wait time for the remaining player(s), respecting THEIR time better. At the same time, it retains the lag time for possible recovery from real technical issues, which do happen.

Just a thought from an IT perspective. Possibly one that needs a bit more refinement, but a starting point for improvement.

I don't have a problem with quitters, its the way some quit. Just switching off instead of waiting for their turn to forfeit should be penalised.
