These are all trouble and cost free.

While there are several programs out there that tell you they will "scan" your computer for free, as the OP says, they will give you this huge list of errors and tell you that you have to buy the program in order to fix the errors.

With that said, there are also many "freeware" programs available to you that are designed by college students and the code and executable are free.  It's known as "Open Object" software.  The three links provided by Paulton are in fact free and do not contain spam.  They all do exactly as advertised.  If you do not have a utility to keep your machine clean, I highly recommend any of these utilities, as they all work splendidly.

+1 . Also can go to CNET .com , and get free downloads as well . I use advanced system care 7.0 , and it comes with a game boost to enhance playing online games. It allows you to turn off all back ground programs , to keep your system , at peak performance , while playing games . It works great , and helps to keep the meter real smooth . Hope this helps. :-)

That's the one I use as well ... I have the pro version, which I did pay for.  There is a free version, but since I liked that one so much, I purchased the annual licence.

I, for one, don't have a problem supporting the programmers whose tools I use.

    C.Cleaner ... available from CNet.com or C.Cleaner.com ....

And Windows has a built-in utility called Disk Clean Manager.... or is supposed to have.

C Cleaner cleans everything (including flash cache) , will delete redundant restore points at your command, and will even remove unnecessary registry keys and file paths that are left over from updating and deleting software. And it's totally freeware .... no spam ...

I use a FREE software scanning program called:  CCleaner.com  It takes approx. 30 seconds to SCAN my computer....removes about 15 different types of clutter....including cookies, etc...that tend to interfere with the WGT meter.

Also, I have a FREE version of Advanced System Care6.  You can BUY an upgraded version, but, don't think it's necessary.  I scan my computer with this system 2 to 5 times a week.  It removes privacy errors, any malware, does a complete defrag....just really goes through my entire system and CLEANS it.  This SCAN takes approx. 10 minutes to run.  Speeds up my PC, yes, I still use a PC.....*smile*.  But, I never have WGT meter issues due to the help of these (2) FREE programs.

The two BEST programs available for free or paid versions. Been a user of both for a long time. They definitely keep my OOOOLLLLDDDD 2007 Vista PC clean and running super smooth. I've tried everything and there is no program that even comes close to these two.

Cleanup4.0 is about the best prog I have ever found for cleaning out your computer (was free)----now when you download it you have to pay something like 10 bucks but well worth it.  I also run malwarebytes (anti-malware removal prog.  Usually costs around 30 bucks for full version--if having problems you owe it to yourself to download a trial version and try it out.  I have been using mine for about 3 years and there is nothing i have used in the past that compares to this one.  it also catches the malicious threats automatically and notifies you immediately what it has found.

    www.malwarebytes.com

makes my computer zing right along.
