my point is bein missed....just to say i think its a great game....but if i can putt a 5ft`er for bogey...why cant i do it for birdie or par....mmmm huh huh? obviously the game wont allow me to because i hav`nt spent any cash....i might do one day....but u have to make it consistant. i have to hit my third shot within a yard to have any chance...and its still bloody hard! this is on BPB...good game though!

it seems a teeny weeny little bit fairer....or ive got better...ha! im not expectin to shoot 64....but close to par...+7 on 18...not to bad!

just a query....does this game incorperate AI? and did u use hawkeye for trajectory and ball movement?

We don't have any AI and the the physics does not change depending on your score.  The putting revision was major and it will take a bit to get used to it.  Fundamentally we wanted to put the control into the player's hands.  We are looking at ways to help you make shots 5 feet and in. This is to compensate for the fact it is hard to get the "feel" in the game verses real life.  But if you watched the LPGA tournament last weekend, a player missed a 3 foot putt on the 18th to tie for the lead. Putting is just plan hard in golf.

    Jarid,

The changes certainly caught me by surprise initially, but I will say this much.   The mishits and trajectory of the ball off the putter with this new change is very predictable, and putts can still be made without aiming and just using a mishit on the swing meter to compensate for the break.   Due to that, I've actually found putting much easier and can use the mishit on the swing meter (and no aim) to bury putts much longer than 3 feet, and have been able to successfully use a combination of aim and slight mishit in my putting game, which did not work at all for me in the last putting update.

    Marioh,

I've tried the "cut putting" theory and find it works well in certain situations. But what gets me is if your trying to miss by 1/8"(and you have that worked out for                so much break) and then end up missing 1/4" long and you miss right.  You might as well just try for perfect hits.  Are you experiencing this? Missing by an 1/8 is quite a bit different than missing by 1/4".

I'm starting to get used to it now, but i still think its a little unfair. In my opinion a miss of 1/8" @ 10 feet from the cup should be off only the width of the cup on a flat green. Currently it seems if you miss by that much its up to 1 or 2 feet offline and missing by a 1/4 is even more severe.

I was having so many problems putting that i switched to the old putter and although i still miss some (through my own stupidity) I find the mishits more forgiving than the tour starter putter.

The game will penalize even the slightest of mishits from where you're trying to hit (as in your example).   But it seems to be no different than aiming and going for the perfect putt, but missing every so slightly on either side.   Again, it's really all about consistency for me and knowing what to expect with certain swings and mishits in specific areas.

I suspect it may be a bit too sensitive to mishits and Tibbs brought up a great point in another thread about the "forgiveness" rating of the tour starter putter being high, but actual forgiveness on the course doesn't show it.   Maybe they mixed it up with the default putter.

My biggest complaint of the previous putting is the wind having a huge effect on putts, and the maddening variance.   Put together, those 2 items almost drove me to insanity. On the plus side, I learned how to tap in with the driver due to the frustration.   :)

my theory...the reason why putting is so difficult is because they are gonna relese new putters, just a thought!

What I find helpful with putting is the use of the reverse view....you give yourself a better cahnce to hole it or get it close. Ya know...

....it is possible to make the cut with the "beginner clubs". In two seperate rounds, I had a 35 on the front, 10 putts...then 36 on the back, 11 putts for an aggregate 71. You just have to be on your game...get some favorable winds..and hopefully par # 15...I finally got a good roll off the incline to 3 feet..then made the scary downhiller. You just have to be a good scrambler with the starter set.

If you're good at judging distances on the scale, I also recommend upping the distance on the putter for some putts. By moving your power point closer to 0 on the scale, the bar is moving slower which, for me, means it's a little easier to get the perfect stroke.
