How does it work when you have posted a score in a month long tourneyment at one tier, but you move up a tier and since it's unlimited you keep trying to better that score. Does it get posted in the new tier, the old one, not at all or ????? I'm sure this has happened to someone that can explain it to me and anyone else that would like to know.

Maybe it's a stupid question, but I'm fairly new to the game which by the way I love it. It has given me that winter blues fix of some golf.

You will continue to play that tournament in the lower tier until the tournament ends.

    Cheers,

Thanks, that was the answer I was looking for. it may be my imagination, but it looks like the greens got faster when I jumped up a tier and I can't match that score again.

Just my luck. Costing me about 30 places in current ioa open.

Congrats for becoming a Master. Compared to TP, this means only longer, "hard" tees while the greens remain the same, very fast.

In that tournament, the conditions are not changing, same tees, same wind, same green speeds. A good chance to bolster your average.

Alas, green speeds may vary slightly from week to week...

I've recently been a beneficiary of this "phenomenon".

I made Master on the 18th. Back on the 11th I played in the January tourney at BPB, as a Tour Pro. I shot 34. Respectable, but only good for 354th place.

Since making Master, I've bought new clubs and have been playing really well. I was looking for a tournament to play in and decided to replay the BPB tourney, forgetting that I changed tiers since I played it last. After a couple of holes I realized that I was hitting from the white tees. I was confused at first but then remembered about the change in tiers. Well, long story short, I ended up shooting a 29. Tied for 7th now.

If I'd stayed a Tour Pro and still bought the new clubs, I may very well have shot the same score. A legitimate possibility. But I still have this feeling of cheating the system. So I had this idea:

If you return to a tournament after tiering up, you have the choice of:

    A. forfeiting your lower tiered score and posting a new one in your new tier, or

    B. not being able to play in the tournament again because you're not in the same tier you entered in.

What do y'all think? Is it worth the trouble? Does the practice have that much of an impact on the outcome? Is it a common "cheat"?

As a Master, I should have been hitting from farther back. However, I played both rounds with the same driver, wedges and ball, so it wasn't like I was suddenly taking advantage of much shorter approach shots. But I can see where some folks might be able to take advantage of using longer equipment under shorter conditions when the opportunity presented itself.

It's just something I thought of and wanted to get some response.

    A. is impossible - your registration cannot be altered or cancelled.

    B. is against the facts: You enter, you tier up, you continue under the same conditions.

I see only one option to fit to your intentions: Choose not to play after the tier-up.

Alas, your qualms aren't justified IMHO.

You are not a different player after tiering up, you have no extra advantage from the promotion. It's no cheat, honestly.

Many players develop new skills in the course of one month, or they level up and buy new clubs, no matter if they tier up or not.

Good points. I was wondering what others thought.

As for "A" being impossible, as a programmer, I would argue that nothing is impossible. ;-)
