    PRIESTESS:
Gary putted amazing and was 4 under after 3,But Lou and i played steady Eddie golf and came through 3 and 2 winners i think or 2 and 1,,, Card is on its way

Congratulations to all of you for getting the tourney under way! Thanks Tess for posting the card.

And commiserations to Dee... that was sure a tough Ryder Cup baptism, playing alongside three of the top names in the game, and with the added pressure of Worst-Ball format.

I calculate it as a 4&3 win for the ROW team, winning the 2nd, 4th, 5th, and 6th holes. (Had it been better-ball, the result would have been 2&1 for ROW).

Intriguingly, it would have been a very impressive better-ball 9 for the ROW team of -8; but the worst-ball score... only -2.

Our Results overview sheet now has its first entry: ROW 1 :: USA 0

    --------

and... with my organizer hat off, and my ROW co-captain hat on... Yay! Way to go Tess and Luciano!!!

    In other news...

Since last night's update, replying to PMs now works without needing to use the workaround (at least for me using Chrome on a Mac).

And, this morning, I came this close to a double-eagle and a guaranteed big paycheck... boo! (Of course, had I putted half-decently earlier on, I wouldn't have needed a double-eagle on the last... oh well, such is life!)

FYI: Priestess has declared a penalty on herself for taking a Gimme (before she knew it was against the rules). She PM'd me this message this afternoon:

PS i forgot to say i took a Gimme on the par 5 2nd hole which i later found out on the par 3 it was against the rules so i think we lost that hole:)

I don't want to set rules that are too harsh in these circumstances. I think a Warning for the first time it happens (if done in ignorance), and a penalty stroke for subsequent occurrences in the tourney seems fair.

In this particular instance, assessing a penalty stroke would make no difference to the result on that hole. A par 5 instead of the birdie 4 that Priestess scored would still have been a better worst-ball than Dee's 6.

Also, I'm at fault for failing to spell the Gimme rule out with a unique post in the forum. It is stated in the opening page Format section, but to be very clear for everyone now: Gimme's are NOT allowed. You must put the ball in the hole.

Perhaps players could all help remind each other of that in the lobby before each match. Thank you!

Taking a gimme should be recorded as a 10 (maximum score on wgt) since the ball never went in the hole.

Even losing that hole in this case would not change who won the match.

Congratulations ROW on your 1st win.

Yes, that makes sense. I wasn't thinking of it in terms of virtual golf scores here... just trying to relate it to what a penalty might be for a transgression in real golf. And, it's an odd problem, since we're having to play two of the series in a format that doesn't let us concede putts, but in a matchplay scored competition where, IRL, the strategy of conceded putts is integral.

So, folks, for this competition, the golden rule is... Don't take a Gimme! If you do, it'll count as a 10 on your card!

(I've amended this match's result to a 2&1 win for Daskino & Priestess, and noted this rule in the Format opening page post.)

Late replay, 'cos yesterday I had to rush home. :)

It was great to have Tess on my side; I have to say it helped me to have a solid game management (ehm, lucky second shot at #4 aside) all the round through. Gary was brilliant into first three holes, but very unlucky at #4 and #5. And Dee scores her first uneven Merion birdie ever at #8 - woohoo -. She needs some UEL experience (and Merion is not the most enjoyable course to begin with) but she fought in every single hole and never beat her down.

As I said yesterday, it was a real pleasure (and some more uneven experience) to play with you all.
