punch  shot with top spin is the best bet. BUT play percentages and just try to get the ball back in play rather than trying the miracle shot..Playing the ball twenty yards out sideways is better  than not getting the ball out.

The best way of avoiding the weeds is better course management, so before you hit work out the associated risks and change clubs if required. I used starters clubs for a year and many holes were not reachable in regulation, so Instead of just hitting as far as I could, I would try to leave a full wedge to the green etc and therefore remove hazards etc. But sure at times we miss the ding by a mile or get metered and thats when you learn.

Put the game into practice mode and try to find the weeds or deep rough and use mulligans - take notes to see what works best.

Also bear in mind different courses the "weeds" (or heavy rough) can play differently and only experience tells you the best way to negotiate it. Lastly, the better the clubs the better the results, but even with the best - always play percentages.IMHO

I would say punch one of your 2 wedges to the nearest part of the fairway. Don't bite off too much. Just get it back into play.

I got in the mulch last week at Kia. Been there many times and popped right out and on the green. This time I couldn't move the ball a foot no matter what I did. Funny as all get off. I took all the strokes and moved on. Hard on the ball wear though.

    QFT.

Playing the ball twenty yards backwards may even be better  than not getting the ball out.

The bottom line is - get the ball back on the short grass with as few shots as possible even if it means you don't advance the ball towards the hole..
