I add one for every 3 feet up, and subtract one yard for every 4 feet down.    Disclaimer: I stink.

    It should be inside.

Die Rechnerei ist für uns "Metrische" sehr unbequem, Zoll und Fuß und Yards... aber man gewöhnt sich dran.

Good thing is the easy full numbers, 3 for 1 in fairway and green elevations.

For each 3 feet of elevation change add or subtract 1 yard of shot distance.

So for 15 feet above or below the ball through the green, the calculation would be would be 15 / 3 = 5 yards +/-.

    I think it's a different problem:

Us Germans as well as other Continental Europeans were born in the metric system. Therefore, we're not used to convert feet into inches, e.g. on severe green slopes. A calculator may be most helpful to us.

    • 1 meter = 3.2808399 feet

    So you calculate 7 * 3,2808... mentally?`*grins*

As I said, this 3 for 1 rule is easy regardless of the units. Problem is the big slopes, 2 ft or more on the greens. Then you have to know how many inches this is. Some of us have done this in elementary school, others are noobs with a grade...

It seems only fair that on the EU courses, they use metric.  Why let the rest of the world have all the fun?  ;-D

Real course distances are given in yds, too, on STA and RSG.

And, it might be as difficult for us, too. Instead of one foot per three inches it would be 1 m per 25 cms - dunno if this would be an advantage to anybody.
