It is a shame this thread died just when constructive ideas were being introduced.

As a very ordinary putter, I bought the master putter but then went back to my daytona with the slower meter.  Even though the master putter is more precise if you dont regularly hit it how you want to I dont find it helps a lot better to ding or delib not ding a lesser putter but actualising your intention is the most important factor as far as I am concerned

Dscroggs and others, the putting stat listed is so annoying and off in this game, but its actually correct.  You are thinking that out of 100 putts from 5-10ft you make only 12.11%, but thats not what the stat shows.  What it shows is out of your total putts what % fell from those distances.

    So for dscroggs:

    11989 Total putts

Of those 11989, 45.22% you made from 0-5ft, 12.11% from 5-10ft and so on.

Its really a dumb statistic that makes little sense because it is not telling you what percentage you make from 5-10ft, but out of your total putts what distances you made the from.

Scores on here tend to be lower than a PGA Pro Avg, because we play the same course's repetitively with almost no condition change. Pin Placements rarely change and it never rains in WGT.  PGA changes hole location everyday and players on tour play in the rain and they play more than 4 courses a year !

I think if WGT moved pins alot more often to different locations on the green, putting would automatically become more realistic as well and you would have to keep re-learning greens and approach shots. Throw in some rain every now then to change putts and club distances. arrange the clubs in the pro shop by tiers instead of levels and this game might actually start being more realistic and fun again for all.

    Just my thoughts on it

Neil... another way of looking at those putting stats would be to consider that the player in question made 45.22% of his putts 5' and under.  57.33% of his putts 10' and under... and so on.  In that way there is some value to the numbers.

But, of course, the % of putts made of the whole from a particular range would be a better learning device.

True 2xmochaman.  Either way, like you said, its not very helpful to us, % of made per distance would be better for me at least.

    Yep.

That particular stat is a little screwy and really doesn't allow you to understand anything about the person's putting ability.

For example, some average players might be looking at a 10-25 ft putt every single time they get on the green, and they'll have, let's say a 20% putts made from 10-25 ft stat, whereas the best players might only have 40% of their approaches land in that range, and they might have a 15% putts made from 10-25 ft stat, but that doesn't mean the average player is better than the best players when putting from that distance.  The fact that the best players are in the 10-25 ft range only twice for every three times that an average player is in that range often offsets the fact that the best players are far better putters, but the way the statistic is implemented, their "% putts made from 10-25%" stat will be exactly the same or even make it seem as if the average player is the better putter.

Pretty much the only stats worth looking at to get a gauge of someone's putting is avg distance to pin on approach and one-putt percentage... but even that is thrown off by what courses they play (KIA and ST A greens being harder than BPB greens) or whether or not they sometimes just simply get on the green and screw around in practice rounds.

I looked high and low for this thread. I would love to have the ability to over swing with

rewards/penalties for missing the ding. For EVERY club. Probably would require 3 tick swing meter. Sever penalties for missing ding with the driver. Distance and direction!

If my 3 wood is going to come short at 100% and 1,2, 3 or more ticks over 100% is going

to give me the distance I need, I'm for it as opposed to trying to hit a driver off the deck.
