can you show us a replay of what you mean? with a description of your thought process?  then we can see the result?

cuz at present Alex, riding the wind is a dangerous game I think.  esp if you imply backspin.  some of those shots can be huge "wrong-ways".

I'm guessing I don't understand your example given about oakmont and a chance at a hole in one?  is the bunker you mention right or left of the pin?  how much spin do you use? how far before or after the ding are you hitting?

I can guess - if right to left wind you're moving the aim marker to a bunker to the right of the pin - but where you lose me is you say you hit before the ding - which causes the effect of moving the marker to be negated somewhat.  why not hit closer to the ding or after and move the marker less?

seems a lot safer.  I'm not sure any real life golfer will pen a 'how to' article on aiming a ball 50 yards to the right and pulling it on purpose in a left to right wind for a greater chance of an ace.

i struggle in winds above 20 - so I'm keen to understand what you're getting at - and.........if it works for you.

*edit = I just visualized the hole I think your talking about - or one of the par 3's anyway.

interesting idea - would be like relearning wind effect to discover how far to aim and again if the risk is worth potential reward (cuz lord knows I can't hit a ding anyway - so there's no difference in my game what 'spot' i'm hoping to click on regarding the meter - i never hit it)

I always ensure i am in the green as win takes me to hole or after. 100% consistent.

Wrong. Because the effect of the wind will never be the same when you miss with it. You could easily end up 20 yards left of the green in the situation you described; and you shouldn't be surprised by that outcome. The game has inconsistencies built in to it that you will never overcome. The best way to get 'consistent' results is to figure out how the wind works (on every course, with every shot type, with every amount of spin, with every elevation change, etc...) and play using that knowledge. Get it close or leave an uphill putt, don't make it a crapshoot. I've heard you're a pretty good shot, don't start going backwards.

All these are useless if you can ding. These for people who can't click where they want to. You need some form of cushion. If u click before ding. you can get the ball between bunker and hole..even if u hit way early u will be left of hole. So its kinda safe. I am mostly started to hit like that for 0-15mph wind. above that i hit opposite side of wind because you can't move marker out of screen. :)

Ding is one point. What i am saying is you can click atleast 5mm area before ding or after ding if u aim u could and still have safe shot. Only issue is u have to adjust yardage .

Ding included. :) Ding favors wind direction.

    This is a crazy post

If you hit the meter on the side the wind is coming from you can take a bit of the wind out of play.

If you hit it on the side the wind is going I don't think anybody knows where the ball may land.

An example, and I am bad with hole #'s so it is at Kiawah and that par 3 water hole.  16 mph wind going left and the 216 yard?? pin location.  I used a 205 yard iron and lined up on the edge of the water.  I didn't use any spin on the ball.  I missed the dinger by 2-3 pixels on the left and the ball LANDED 230 yards out in the rough.  No bounce, no nothing.

It is not possible to play with the wind like you are saying.

I still think this is a pretty big fly in your ointment:

Duffer's right.  If you can't get fairly consistently close to hitting the ding, how are you going to be able to miss the ding by a certain amount?

Work out the wind allowance needed, move the marker and try to hit the ding.  Easiest and most reliable method.

With a driver however you can gain a few yards by missing with the wind sometimes.  Don't miss by too much but this will let the ball ride the wind better.   Missing approach shots either against or with the wind is never a good thing.  If you're missing the ding most of the time move the marker 2 yards further than you think is necessary and do your best to get the ding.

And despite all this, Alex just played better than I have ever seen him with his crazy new method!!

But you know the old saying even a broken clock is right twice a day. He might play well for a few holes like that or even a full round but eventually it will bite him in the butt big time!

Doesn't surprise me. The one really fun thing about playing with him is he'll try anything to see what happens. I like that.
