why can't tournaments be by tier or a handicap. I enjoy tourneys but I stand no chance of competing for anywhere near the top as I cannot play birdie every hole golf. I would also like to see  a minimal amount of credits awarded for winning and finishing a round in the open play so it might discourage the quitters. rarely play a round with the group I start with.

    Hey Cliff,

I don't know what Tourneys you've entered but the free weekly and monthly Tourneys are by Tier. In the Tourney information it will say if a Tourney is tier based or open to all players if credit entry is involved..

Across the top of the page click on Tournaments.

Highlight each Stroke Play, CTTH, or RG tournament and look at the info then displayed on the right side of the page - click on Learn More.

The Stroke Play -  February Multi-round Open St. Andrews & RSG (100 credits to play) tournament shows that Prizes will pay from the Amateur to TL tiers.

The lowest Tour Pro score wins 4000 credits, 2nd place wins 3000 credits and 3rd place wins 2000 credits. http://www.wgt.com/golf-tournaments/stroke-play/february-multi-round-open-st-andrews--rsg-tournament.aspx?id=8b7dc9ec4bae4f89be4aa2af00107706

Next highlight the Stroke play - February Monthly Congreaaional [sic] 18 (free tournament) - and click Learn More.

That tournament pays to the winner in each tier. The winning Tour Pro tier player gets 800 credits. http://www.wgt.com/golf-tournaments/stroke-play/february-monthly-congreaaional-18--tournament.aspx?id=a37584b9482d4b308299a2ae01763357

I've tried them all. what I am discouraged with I can play stroke, match, or bracket and compete. have alot of fun and great matches with other players on the same tier. but when it comes to those monthly tournaments i can't even come close to competing. what's the difference. how can other players on the same tier birdie almost every hole even on courses like Bethpage, olympic, or merion. even on Brandons par 3's the players are scoring 13/14 under par. am I not spending enough on my equipment? no matter I will keep playing as I still have alot of fun and love the graphics on this game.

because them people sit there for 15 hours a day starting over and over until they birdie the first 9 holes and have a chance of posting a really good score. I just stick to the tourneys with single rounds as they can't do this and you get more realistic scores and have a chance to get a decent finish.

I will assume it's mainly prize credit tourneys you look at (greatest differences shows there anyway):

    1. Your equipment is sub optimal to give yourself the best chance against those scores - See lots of threads on that.

    2. What calcs do you have,  They have precise ones.  It also has to be said that at L92 and still a TM some will be doing something long before that, and something for you to look into;

    3. As soon as money is involved every multi / trick under the sun is rife.  Don't assume all are genuine first starts .....Now some may just have worked hard, some also play over and over but way too many...........Constant battle fly swatting.

It might be an idea to carry this with you Cliff although I wouldn't advise using it as a tee box but as Jim said, there are certainly many 'flies' out there that need twatting.

Agreed. His kit bag is quite the hodgepodge. Good driver, very low end irons. A low end 3 wood. One decent wedge, etc. Better irons also means he could ditch the hybrid for a good 3rd wedge.

If winning $$ is the goal, an investment in top equipment (and lots of practice with it) is a must.

Indeed there are, indeed there are.

Freudian slip if ever there was one

Cliff - in the three years between posts you appear to have learned little.....in fact as you are only level 92, it would also indicate you don't play a lot.

As pointed out, the only way to improve is by practice and applying the calculations for different shots.

Whilst you bag has a mixture of low level clubs mixed with high level spec clubs, you will always struggle to gain any consistency.

To be honest, the chances of you ever being a top player is very remote, but with practice you will at least compete in tournaments that are tiered.

I am not a top player but every so often I can play well and card good scores in a tournament.......but there is invariably someone better.....and that is fine as I play the game for fun and if I win, then that is a bonus.

It sounds like that is your attitude as well, and I hope you continue to enjoy it. I would be happy to have a game with you to give you some tips...if you want to, send me a friend invite and we will have a game.

The only other advice I will offer is your CC. It is deader than a doornail. 74 members and only 8 have played so far this year, with many not playing since 2015. No criticism of you, but there are thousands of clubs like it that are a club in name, not in substance.

Zero tournaments, zero activity, so if you really want to improve, you should hand it over to someone or close it. Then move to a club who actively mentor players - there are a lot around I know of who would do this including Jimbog's Red Dirt....who posted in this thread.
