I have an array of balls available but when my current bal runs out mid round i get defaulted to the starter ball.   Should it not auotmatically select next best or give you a choice!?

    hi

unfortunately, no, it has always been this way and as far as I know, will not change. Biggest reason is, you cannot change balls midround, so only work around for us was to do it this way.

    Ok thanks.

I understand that an advantage cannot be gained mid round by improving ball but maybe allow a ball of same rating or lower?

I was prompted mid round to purchase but i thought i have others in the bag i can use...obviously not.

    Rules FAQ

    Rule Misc.

    One Ball Condition

    Q.  What does the "One Ball Condition" mean?

    A.  The Rules of Golf do not require a player to use the same brand and type of golf ball throughout the stipulated round. A player may use a different ball to start each hole. However, the Committee may adopt as a Condition of a Competition, the "One Ball Condition." When this condition is adopted, players are required to use the same brand and type of golf ball throughout the stipulated round. Please refer to Appendix 1; Part C; 1 (Specification of the Ball).

Basically WGT has adopted a somewhat modified version of this USGA rule, which typically is used in tourney play with professionals and high level amatuers. Under this rule should you run out of the same ball mid match you would be DQd and unable to post a score. WGT just replaces you with the starter ball so you can finish the round which I suppose is better than having your round end and being WD if it is a single play ready go or match play.

As Icon says its been this way forever and unlikely they will change it. When you have 1 ball left you are given option to by more or just make sure you got enough of that ball before round starts or don't use it.

This issue has been brought up so many times i can't even remember. Try searching the forums first, chances are if you thought of it or have a complaint about it, somebody else has already beaten you to the punch

What exactly would you consider "the same rating or lower"? Averaging overall attributes would allow someone to start a game with a ball showing low meter speed but little spin/distance to substitute to a ball with more spin or distance on the second or third hole. Very easy for someone to manipulate in order to fleece more honest players out of credits.

At the same time, WGT errs in that they also apply the One Ball Condition to practice rounds. The USGA makes it crystal clear that the Condition only applies to competitive rounds and does not apply in regular play.

In practice rounds players should be able to freely substitute balls in order to experiment with certain ball/club combinations and use the mulligan feature to see how different golf balls react on the same shots. That's the way it works in real life and should work here.

I agree with the way the Condition is applied in rounds that count for average or stats. I don't agree with the way it is applied in practice.

Now you know how to solve the situation. Adhere.

No one is trolling , as these are the forums . All comments made here , are open to any one who wants to respond . That being said , you have been a member of this game , since Oct. 2008 . For almost 6 years you have been playing this game , so you know how the ball replacement works . If you were new to the game I could understand , but that is not the case . The game gives you a chance to buy more balls , before you start the round . If you decide not to do so  , then deal with the consequences . Now go F&%$#@#$% yourself A$$#0!%$# :-)

    1. I am a member but this scenario was new to me today.  You can believe that or not i'm not bothered.

    2. I asked for confirmation and gave an opinion.

    3. Alosso said '....Abide'.  Abide by what, i did not try to break any rules.  To me that is trolling.

Your comment 'no one trolling, these are the forums' has no correlation between the first and second statement.

I'd be interested on your views on Alosso's initial comments as we differ here where I think he/she posted adding no value and not understanding the context.  Based on this i told him to xxxxx.
