Well here is the first Test one that I have made.  It is a required starter driver club tournament.  So make sure you add it to your bag before you play.  This is a extreme test course.  WGTIcon quite after 5 holes LOL!

This will have impact on your scoring average so if you don't want it to quite on the 18th hole.  Feedback is needed.

Does it also restrict 3 woods?

Pretty sure my 3wood is longer than the starter driver.

It should be longer.  I am just starting out with one required club to see how it goes.  So you can still use your 3 wood.

Agreed, using the 3wd instead of the driver is neither here nor there. It is the already crazy greens at Merion with the faster speed that causes the problems...

For me I looked at it like this, the combination of only having two clubs to choose from, either 225 or 240 ish, would force players to hit their seconds shots using long irons on some holes.  This will in turn cause longer putts since the ball is harder to stop.  Perfect example is #18.  Hitting a 280 drive on that hole gives you a chance to reach the green in two.  Having to hit a 3 wood.... not so much.

Well 18 was sure fun in the 18mph headwind...lol!

Get ready for 40/50 rough and a punch shot that goes straight up in the air!

Having to hit longer irons does not necessarily lead to longer putts. It's holes like 13 with the back pin where, whatever you do aside from fluking a putt, you run back down the green 30ft away - that's what leads to longer putts. Set this tournament up without crazy greens and you'd still see -5s and -6s I'd think. 18 is the only hole where there is a big effect.

lmao exactly the same for me on that hole - went up in the air 200y and landed 41y away.

and that par3 13 i think killed me - had 4 putts go 2 ft past and roll back to my feet 27ft away, only got lucky with the last putt that went past and fell in the hole on its hourney back.

had 2 chip ins which helped on 15 where my 175 iron went 146y.
