    chuddlymccannon:

    Thanks Wheels65

The Slider was something i was also interested in but haven't ran into on the course since becoming a Legend.

I just sold the R11 for the SLDR (89) since I was still a long way from the next big thing. I love the SLDR; so much more forgiving.

The Covert seems to be the same club as the SLDR, for the same price, 4 levels lower. It may perform a little different from the attributes, but they are identical on paper.

    UPDATE:

Just played a fellow CC member who had the HOT X.  He out- drove me by ~ 8 yards (regardless of the wind direction) - If we get a free rental weekend before you throw the switch - I'd recommend playing both clubs before you make up your mind!

    Thanks for the update Wheels

I actually played a guy last night with the xhot and he out drove me by 5 yards over nine holes with a slightly less distance ball

The first time I played against one hitting from the same tees was at st. andys and last night was at RSG.

I am slightly confused by this to say the least.

I paid very close attention to ball placement and reaction when hitting the fairway and overall it was pretty comparative.

I will surely be doing some more research.

As of right now I am planning on waiting until I can get the nike or maybe even waiting for the slider

Sldr behavior is interesting. Since we've had so many No Wind Tourneys lately (not a complaint!!), I 've had chances to test it many times .The total travel of the ball doesn't vary greatly between FBS, zero spin and FTS ( on the order of 5-7 yards). You get the longest distances by adding 1/2 top spin (1/2 way between 0 and FTS).  The biggest difference is in the "Carry" - with FBS the ball rolls  ~ 5 yds while with FTS, it will roll 20-30.

After seeing how the HOT X plays, I think that it may generally be "longer" than the  Sldr, but not enough to get me to switch.

I've used all 3 of those drivers....the XHOT, though it is very good, isn't as good as the SLDR...I found with both the XHOT and the 85 Covert, they both struggle immensely with the 45 degree winds...It took me about 5 rounds to figure out the SLDR...full bs on nearly every shot of 45 and frontal winds and I still hit around 290.....with a tail wind, I usually go from either 3/4 bs or zero...depending on the wind speed...I have found only one thing wrong with the 85 Covert and that it struggles for distance when wind is 45 degrees or a straight head on wind even as little as 4 mph....I like all 3 drivers, but, if I had a gun to my head, I'd pick the SLDR....all around good driver..I usually can stay within 5-7 yds of the R1.

    Thanks for the info Steven

The ability to try all 3 clubs is not something, that not everyone has done.  But, I am glad you posted on it.

So far my lvl48 R1 has kept me on all fairways even shooting into some heavy winds.

I will wait until level 89 and get the SLDR

The SLDR is a great driver that depending on golf ball a player with R1 is using, can out drive the R1 at times. Only difference really is with wind in your face, the R1 will out drive you every time.I rented nike level 85 driver to see if it was better then my SLDR and without question the answer is NO!!

    Thanks Jresh,

I have played a few rounds since posting this.

The SLDR seems to be way ahead of my R1 and the lvl 85 Nike on an overall basis.  Played a round at St. Andy's yesterday with a guy that had the SLDR .  Had mostly 20-27 mph crosswinds.  His average for the round was 18 yards further than mine.  He was using a better ball, but I think that ball was only good for a few yards more.

That same round was played with a guy that had the lvl85 nike and his average was 9.5 yards more than mine.  He was also using a better ball.  But, it was the same ball as the guy with the SLDR.

I will wait for the SLDR.  Hopefully I can get there this year.......... only 6 more levels to go :-( LOL

I bought the latest R1 driver a couple months ago and am very happy with it.  I hit level 100 tonight and can now buy the Covert driver... for $35...lol.  There was a time (not too long ago) that you could buy a REAL driver for that much money, not a virtual one.  I have become more and more discouraged with this site.  They seem to be in it for the money only.  If a player gets to level 100, shouldn't that suggest that they've spent enough money on this site?  It has to be $35?  What is next?  $50?  $100? And I'm sure if I sell my new R1 driver, I will get 10 cents on the dollar (do I need 2 'virtual' drivers?)

And, as I've been saying for the last year... WHEN DO WE GET A NEW STROKE PLAY COURSE?

    Buyer beware, I guess...

The SLDR is an excellent club. I changed from the Taylormade R11 shortly after I made Legend. Before that I was using the G20 set, hence I found the Taylormade clubs too fast to control.

I also like the Nike irons because of the slower meter. I use a Nike putter and Nike balls (lvl71). However, I would not change to the new Nike driver. I think it has similar attributes to the SLDR. My driving average is 290yds and I'm hitting more fairways. If it's not broken why would I want to change. I may be tempted by the R1. I just missed out on that promotion as I was still level 92.

As much as I like Nike I'm sticking with my SLDR for now.
