  If you are having such issues then it could be deeper than that. Have you considered full format? you should have OS disk or partition to burn those. I would recommend that.

  I generally do full format twice a year, to keep my system free. It solves all issues.

  Not sure what else we can do short since you having such deep issues with several browsers... I would also try another computer and see if it works.. maybe borrow a friends or family's one?

  Have no idea full format is?, OS disk, partition? Not a clue. 

  If all is not OK when I turn on the laptop, I'm as good as dead.

  Give yourself some credit, you know where the switch is. LOL. 

  This is not a scary thing to fix and doesn't require a degree in computers. Promise. Just looking at the basic stuff usually fixes a lot of troubles. Start at Square One and find out what your computer is doing behind your back. You'll be surprised. That link to the msconfig file I posted earlier is an absolute no brainer to understand. It has screen pics and everything. You can't get hurt. Try it.  :-)

  A full format means it erases everything and re-installs the operation systems, You can use the feature that allows you to take your computer back to the last  known good configuration, which would be better. format only as a last measure. Do a search on your computer for system restore. Windows 7 has help files which can help you better understand what they are and what they do. This may help you resolve a lot of issues. Also look in control panel for add and remove programs, make sure you don't have multiple versions of the browsers, if so click remove. Help files can help you with that as well. Another good option is, google each of these options, there's a lot of help online to help you learn about these things. Good luck.   Comodo Dragon has a Pop Up Blocker called PrivDog.. You may see it in the top right hand corner as an icon. Disable it.
