Re your first point, I agree completely Don. That's the feedback I'm getting too.

I do wonder if that makes for an even stronger argument for making enhanced purses as a WGT Nation perk. Justify a bigger purse by making these tourneys a benefit (at TL and L level) for being a Nation member (which one becomes by reaching those tiers). That way, there's enhanced incentive, and with more people participating (especially UEL newbies hitting more strokes than normal!), probably still a net benefit in ball use to offset the increased payouts.

On your second point, though, I have to disagree. I think the difficulty of the extreme lies better reflects the premium placed on finding the green in Major-level golf. Lies are supposed to be tough in Open conditions, and this game achieves that admirably... really creating true risk/reward, and forcing a much more 'thinking-gameplay' than the artificial flat-lie version. As I've mentioned elsewhere, there's a reason Tiger Woods was so careful to avoid bunkers while winning the Open at St. Andrews.

In real-life most of us don't get to play bunkers that are that hard, and week-in, week-out on the PGA Tour, the bunkers are often the preferred destination for the pros. But this isn't "boring, how-many-birdies-can-you-get golf"... these are courses set up for the Majors, and UEL is the closest we get to making the gameplay a challenge to shoot significantly under par.

Also, don't forget that the feeling of some shots being too extremely affected by greenside lies, may partly be due to the player using a high-lofted club. If you add the high-loft of a specialist wedge to a red-box lie, you're going to get some extreme results. It's always worth thinking about pitch or punch shots instead, to offset the lie.

I'll get off my soapbox now... sorry :)   (also, I really can't see WGT making changes to UEL at this stage; best to embrace it, and hone your course-management instead!)

Earlier today, I updated the Tour Standings spreadsheet to include the credits awarded for last week's tourney, so it's all fully up-to-date now.

Wk 11 is under way, at St. Andrews (Yay!), leaving just one week left in this initial 'unofficial' tour (hopefully it will be Congressional next week to complete the rotation).

I had some feedback that people couldn't access the new Google Sheets, so I'm going to include some snapshots of some of the Standings sheets here in the thread (note that they're only the top 35+ places, just what fits on my screen).

Click here to see the full google doc spreadsheet; once in the sheet, navigate via tabs at the bottom.

Right-click, open in new Tab, to see these images full-size

Was tipped onto this thread by my friend stevereilly at Bridgestone and I must say I am extremely impressed. Spreadsheets look great and there's obviously been a lot of work put into this.

I'd been playing the weekly tournaments on-and-off but I think I'll be a regular player thanks to this, and the Ryder Cup also sounds like fun. Glad that was I tipped off about this Tour before the qualification starts. Really cool stuff Corwyn :)

Thanks for the kind words, folks!

cricketrules: very glad to hear that you'll try and qualify for the Ryder Cup. And btw, I agree with you: if there's one sport that's better than golf, it's definitely cricket! It's the thing I miss most about living in California.

    -------------

Here's the latest update of the UEL Tour Standings spreadsheet to include the credits awarded for last week's tourney (wk11 at St. Andrews), so it's all fully up-to-date now.

Congrats to KonradOse who came in strong on the last day with a 56 to pip bhoese's 57 in the TL tourney, with ColumbusStorm also shooting a fine 58 for 3rd. In the Legend tier, 3 players tied with 60s, with Hef111 grabbing the tiebreaker over cricketrules and naamasula.

I got this outrageously lucky putt on #2, and the eagle wind on #9, and thought it was going to be my day, but I left too many shots out there, failing to make birdie on the par 3s or par 5s, to finish 2 back.

So... we've now reached the finale of this initial, experimental UEL Tour, with Wk 12 under way at Whistler (again! making it 3 times at this course in this tour... such is life. It's a pity we haven't had a full rotation, missing out on Congressional, but one can't complain about getting the chance to play Whistler in unevens, something we can't do in practice mode).

Shoe, if you're reading, any chance of there being a full rotation of courses in the next 12 weeks? And have you had a chance to think about the feedback regarding higher prize funds for these UEL weekly tourneys: increasing the incentive to encourage top players to participate (at least to have a good chance of recovering ball costs). One suggestion was to assign these tourneys WGT Nation status and prize pools... What do you think?

Next week I'll set up and start a new UEL Tour spreadsheet. The next edition will be a 12 week tour taking us up to mid-June, just before the VUSO final rounds. Please note: this next edition will also be the qualifying event for any players wishing to be a part of the next UEL Ryder Cup, to be held at Pinehurst after the summer.

Since some people couldn't access the new Google Sheets, here again are some snapshots of some of the Standings sheets here in the thread (note that they're only the top 35+ places, just what fits on my screen). I'll do a final wrap-up next week to this Tour.

In the TL categories, FairwayRuepel is mounting a strong challenge for GolferDad's 2nd spot in some of the standings, while fmagnets has a secure lead at the top.

Good to know somebody else shares my views! Might be having to divert some time away from WGT this week to watch the World Cup...

But back to golf... Slightly annoyed this week as I lipped out a putt on the last, but I can't complain as I was blessed earlier in the round - I hit my drive to what I thought would be OoB, or at the very least a horrible WGT "drop" in some weeds, but ended up being a pathway, from where I hit this shot from a "Tee box" lie. Just thought I'd share that for a bit of entertainment.

Here's to the Ryder Cup qualifications, anyway!

    Jack.

No one can ever say that Corwyn never puts a lot of effort into things, or his dedication to starter clubs and uneven lies,  but without sounding dumb, all this effort for what?   SO some one can say they are good at uneven lies??  All this work and effort should lead to something and deserves mopre not just recorded for the sake of it in spreadsheets.  WGT, and other members should donate credits/ prizes to make It worth while for both Corwyn and players and kick start an uneven lie tour which players will want to play as It gives them even more incentive and all Corwyns efforts could lead to a proper tour

I believe a proper UEL tour is the goal Corwyn is working toward. Possible sponsor prizes are always in the cards. The thing I'd like to see is WGT embrace what they created and treat it as the normal game. I play mostly UEL because it's way more challenging and fun to me. I thought that's why it was created. What I'm seeing is the folks who embrace  it be subjects of treatment as if we have something wrong with us and it's abnormal to want to play in this manner. We always have to organize our own Tourneys and play as seconds to the artificial flat lie game. I'd like to know when the hell WGT is going to make UEL mainstream and offer every type game the same as the artificial flat lies games. We can't even play AS to help each other learn the UEL. It's not offered because there's something wrong with us I suppose so we don't deserve the same opportunities as folks playing the artificial flat lies.

As far as why anyone would put in the effort to be recognized as good at UEL, I suppose it's the same motivation as being recognized for being good at the artificial flat lies game. Why not?

I think it would be incredible, if in UEL, starting some time next Jan., a virtual tour set up like the PGA tour.

1 course each week, 18 holes single play, 4 rounds, top 70 and ties make the cut after 2 rounds.

Mon - Thur. to play the first 2 rounds, Fri - Sun. for those who made the cut to play the final 2 rounds and get a virtual paycheck.

4 majors, ending with the final major , the WGT Championship some time in Sept. or Oct.

It really would be cool, teeing off each Mon., wondering if you will make the cut this week and collect a paycheck. It would be such a challenge to see if one could make a virtual living  in what would be an awesome virtual tour.

I believe it is not pushed because WGT are still dissatisfied with it. Their goal is to make the game more realistic. UEL, as it is now, makes it more challenging. And it is logical so it is possible to understand it and overcome it. But it is not realistic. The more loft a club has, the more extreme the effect of the lie is - the opposite to real golf.

I think if they ever get to a stage where a golfer can come here, play the shot they would play in real life, and get a similar result, then WGT would be happy with it and it would become the main way to play the game. Until then it will probably remain niche.
