It hasn't improved since my last post in March. It is painful to try to play. I am on the East Coast but with today's technology should not be a problem. There has to be a glitch some place. I can still go on any other site and it is lighting fast. I don't know what else to comment on. I am not a computer whizz but I do see issues with this site. If we have over powered WGT's capabilities then we have a choice. We can play or not. I think they would like us to continue to play. What they do about it is way out of our control. I won't complain because I don't play enough anymore to give a flip. For those of you who do, I can feel your pain. I have seen many a great AS go to hell, as well as many of my stroke rounds get disrupted. I'm sure, as usual it is at my end. The other 10-12 sites I look at beg to differ.

There are two main aspects to the WGT service.

    1. Advertising Content
    2. Game Content

The advertising content is supplied by the "big boys" - so they are usually cached locally on say an Akamai server usually.  These are big bucks for these guys, they have put a lot on investment into the local rings and they make sure that the content they are delivering is fast and accurate - as they get paid for doing that.  They work with all the big boys, same with GoogleAnalytics - these servers will normally work well with no issues, primarily down to the local caching and the spread of servers ensuring there is a balanced load.

The game content - is purely down to WGT and their business model. I have no idea what model they operate, so I have to make a guess, and no-one in WGT seems the least interested in touching base with it's end users on these issues. So we end up speculating and make 2+2 = 5 no doubt.

All I can report back on is my OWN experience.  Based in the UK, accessing servers based in the US, I am aware I will always have some latency issues. So in my case, I can expect to see latency of 170-220ms depending on time of day. Very rarely gets any faster than that, due to the number of hops to get across to the Western Board .....

WGT do have a number of servers, I can see this in the network captures and the server names.  I have not seen these change much, I tend to get onto server # 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7.  Not sure how many servers WGT have in it's load balance farm, I assume they have a load balance farm.

As this is a client-server set-up, then once connected to a server you stay on that unless you log out and log back in to pick up a different server in the pool.  I sometimes do that when it's bad, to see if I get a "less busy" server.

I suspect WGT just lets people log on, and it takes the hit with over-subscription.  When this happens you get the server issues and the server queuing.  Which is why in my network logs I see a fair chunk of "waits".  This I must stress is directly related to a specific wait on the WGT server - the network log will show other commands being executed.  So it is not a "internet issue", or a "local ISP" issue - it is waiting on the WGT server.....

Now there could be numerous reasons for this,  but the "Load" messages we get are basically down to the WGT being too busy, that the client-side has timed out - hence why you get a retry option.  On most occasions the retry works and you get the next set of data from the WGT server.

Now a well balanced load farm, would mean that as we reach peak traffic, more servers are added to the farm and the load remains balanced.  This costs money - hence my belief that WGT are taking the decision to live with some over-subscription.  Maybe get some revenue in, and then take on extra servers on a permanent basis rather than the usual cloud method of taking starting up / shutting down based on demand.

That is my "speculation" - but no idea to be honest, as WGT will not join in the debate.

Ultimately, the only sanction left to us end users is to stop paying for services.  The problem is, this game, when it is working with no issues - is so darn addictive, trouble is WGT know this - so there is always going to be "punter" willing to continue bank-roll WGT :)

I wouldn't call it speculation, anyone who works with C/S technology or has been gaming in the MP environment for any length of time knows this, knows where the 'lag' n bad connections come from. Ya there can be issues up to your wall in the local sense, if the local cable is congested all to hell where you are located you're going to have issues.

The fact that this is golf game and slow in nature, not requiring any real large player base interacting at once is the only thing saving it, if this was a BF4 situation, WGT would be gone, end of story because no one would be able to play.

Load balancing? That costs money to keep up and maintain in the sense that you add to the infrastructure, seriously doubt WGT is doing any of that, seems pretty apparent to me. Their main concern is digging into your wallet and pulling every penny out until you've had enough and quit playing.

Free ball weekend? Sure drop $20.00 of real world money into WGT and they'll give you a 'free' sleeve of balls. It just floors me how they look at the player base as a bunch of hapless dupes and morons. Why would we do that when we can't play a consistent and trouble free round because you're too bloody cheap and greedy to reinvest the money we pay back into the game delivery system? Laughable...

Load balancing... the only load being balanced is the load of money you send them. LoL

I know crap about gaming sites as this really is the only one I bother with.  I can safely say that the last time I even set up even a games console was for the kids, a PS2 or maybe even a Ps1 lol.  I can say though that sometimes this site, as is currently the case, is slow.  Mostly that's only in minor stuff like clicking on a player to get to their page.  I do that seldom really so not an issue for me, but today is one of those days the actual game is also a frikin nuisance waiting for loads.

I happy to like Rugby Union* and at it's best it's an awesome spectacle, but am first to admit a bad game of that is also dreadful to watch.  Bit like this site in some ways as any one new (my old fart ilk anyway) would say that about this game on a bad day if their first intro.

    * For our American cousins who may not be in the complete know Rugby Union is the man's version of American before you guys got hold of it, dressed everyone in Kevlar head to foot protection armour, and said it's OK to take a breath every 20 seconds.  JOKING before I get bashed:)

And before any one jumps it's not my connection for sure.  Everything else I care to click, around the whole wide world, is near instantaneous.

One thing this game seriously lacks is competition.  Can't help but think a few things might get fixed toot frkn quick with that rod over 'em or cease to exist.  At the very least it would guarantee everything is best in class bearing in mind cost, and who thinks that is the case round here.  I certainly do not feel that is the case on many issues round here.

Site loads VERY SLOW, today & yesterday, game client pauses before take away for about 3 to 5 seconds. An occasional screen artifact on both site & client.

Yep, something's amiss for sure.  Just now finished a CC tourney round at Oak back 9, erratic meter and random club choice changes.  Was hitting an 8-iron approach that mysteriously morphed into a 6-iron in midswing and cost me a double bogey...and before the usual suspects pipe in, no, I didn't accidentally bump the scroll wheel and change the club myself.

In addition to the slow loading and other anomalies, the wk 16 tourneys haven't paid out.

Is anybody home at WGT?  Has Elvis left the building?

I agree with Jimbog, the only thing that might get their attention is competition.

You kiddin' me?  Its Saturday, of course not.

The WGT site is really slow this morning, 10 to 15 seconds to load this reply or open a thread.  Haven't bothered to try a game yet.

I tried a game, on every second shot you have to wait for 5 or more seconds until something is happening.

Andy, good point...but lately the problem has been that there seems to be no one at home Monday through Friday as well.

It's unfortunate that WGT has failed to live up to their promise to become more responsive to customer suggestions and complaints.  They talk a good game, it'd be nice if they'd deliver one.
