Those are my weak points. I've read about how but doesn't work.  I need for somebody to skype with me to explain how to chip & pitch. I just don't get it, I'm sorry to say.  And yes I am an idiot, thank you for noticing.

"How" does it not work? Do they stop before the green? Too long, too short? Wrong direction?

Perhaps shoot us some weak replays?

Best not to restrict yourself to those 2 forms of wedge play. The punch, flop and full shot are good options too.

dont chip on the fairway only fringe

    dont chip in the sand

only chip when you are close to the pin

A chip shot will land and roll 75% of the distance to the pin on the green

a Pitch shot will roll 50%

If you want to pitch off the rough , for every 10% deep add a yard
    eg 30% rough add 3Y

line up your pitches and chips with a putter to see the green contours.

Depending on your equipment, beware of using spin.

Depending on your equipment all of the above may vary.

I use the flop all the time instead of chips & pitch shots.

The thing is HOW hard to hit it?  That's why I would like to skype with somebody so I can tell them what I'm looking at.

What I had done was to allow myself a whole ball life to a green that gives me the best overall flat to moderate green variation to work on the mentioned shots you wish to explore; the first hole at Beth is a good choice.

Study your shots, the landing, the roll, for each discipline...it is the old fashion way to see what is what. Give yourself this liberty and you will be rewarded!

That will depend on the distance, the lie of the ball, elevation change, if you use top or back spin, and maybe even the wind if it strong enough.

I use a calculator and shot pal display (VGG Caddy) set to % on the meter.

I pretty much always use max back spin when I use chip, pitch, or flop shots.

The shortest rated full pitch distance with my clubs is 14 yards. If I have a shot distance of 10 yards I divide - 10/14 = .714 - or a stroke strength of 71.5%. Since I use fullback spin I need to add a bit of stroke strength for that and would add 5%. If the elevation is uphill or if i am hitting from rough instead of the fringe I add a more stroke strength the greater the elevation and the deeper the rough. I subtract stroke strength if the hole is downhill.

Beyond 25 yards or so I mostly use full shot or punch with reduced stroke strength.

Work on avatar moves, with that club and pitch you have 14 yds with 7 moves equals 2 yds per move. Then allow for lie, elevation etc!!

I get what you're asking and that's where having a specific point of reference will help the communication, even on Skype. The advice so far is sound but it almost seems futile unless you can relate to how the shot strength is achieved, i.e., how much to choke.

With the proliferation of scales-WGT style and homemade style- it's tough to know what one player sees on his scale vs what the other does. There's a relatively easy, built in way to get on the same "choking" page as your advisor-the way the avatar moves in the swing and that little blue piece of ruler at the end of the meter.

We all know the avatar moves in steps. There's one reference. That little blue ruler has 5 places to stop-both edges and 3 lines between them. Another reference. The letter "O" in original right next to that blue box is the first step of the avatar move. That makes 7 specific points you can relate to.

If you want to do it yourself, do the mulligan thing using those points as solid references and mark down what each club does. Play the free unlimited tournies and turn them into practice rounds. Hit into and out of places to try your new knowledge and you'll find yourself mastering those shots in no time.  :-)

p.s., A word of caution on trying to be too exact. There are too many variables for 2+2 to = 4 all the time. Get used to playing in ranges, like maybe gimme distances instead of holing out.
