Chinajohn:Kat, I copied you the wind calculator I use and you're welcome to use and or adjust it, especially as it was given to me by 7thwave.
I've seen and reverse-engineered several, John, including the one you shared with me. I liked your calculator the best. The downside to it, however, is the wind power percentages and elevation additions/subtractions are hard-coded.
As far as rough calcs go, I think I'm going to forego trying to program them. Each shot from the rough is different, just like each type of rough is different. Just stay out of the rough. For me, it's better to lay up and land safely on the fairway (with a longer approach shot), than wind up in the rough some 20 - 50 yards closer. There's a lot less thinking required when you're on the fairway ... and a lot less "unanswered prayers".
As for my calculator ... it's just an aid. (like a GPS or range finder IRL). It doesn't take the shot for you. It merely gives you an adjusted distance and an aiming point. When you're in a timed event, it's easier to enter a wind direction, wind speed, distance and elevation than to think ... ok ... 25 feet uphill elevation ... that's like 8 yards ... distance to the pin ... that's 94, so now I have 102 ... I have 8 MPH winds blowing toward me, so I need to add like five yards to ah ... wait ... what was that distance again?
That's me ... and why I have a calculator. While I'm good with calculations and logic, I'm terrible at cypering ... but why should I be? I have an app for that!
