Sorry Oldstir, thought the topic concerned the fact that there are currently 21 courses available for some form of golf, 10 of which may only be played in CTTH (NOT counting "Best of" games). The OP wanted to be able to play full or partial rounds on all of them.
ChinaJohn noted that there is considerably more data/mapping and coding required to create a game to play entire holes as opposed to 'single shot' holes (CTTH). Regardless of how many holes the player wishes to play, John is 100% correct.
If, as you say, you like WGT's current offerings (& want more), with what part of John's statement do you disagree?
Since you mention staying on topic, what does all of the verbiage about 9 and 18 hole searches have to do with the OP's statement?
My statement about "most of us being happy ......" it is derived from reading the Forums. I've been observing and participating in these Forums for about one year longer than you have even played here. I have read far more threads requesting more courses than less, which is to say that I agree with Kelly and John.
Dude, "Love Ya - Mean It"! However, I am having a hard time understanding your point.

Sorry to say, there was an 18 holes tourney on Whistler in Wk 3 ;)

It's seems a shame that so many of the courses here can only be played very briefly in CTTH games. What a friggin waste.

As I said: there are "Eight 18-Hole Courses + 4 Mixed 18-Hole Courses" which means there are more than enough courses to play Alternate Shot, and Match play games. But it's almost impossible to Search for A/S and Match play games because of 9-Holers and 18-Holers search methods. A person already knows whether they want to play 9 or 18 holes but with 9-Holers using the "Any" choice, there is a perpetual conflict with 9-Holers and 18-Holers appearing on almost Every Search and as a result, almost 100% of those "searches" fail. Which might be why it appears to you, that there seems to be perhaps too many players ''devoted strictly to Closest to the Hole games ONLY"? But by eliminating the "Any" option, we would probably see many more A/S and Match play games being played; as I already explained and also answers Wheels65's question. If people can't face the facts IMO; that's their problem? At least some of us try to come up with 'suggesting solutions' instead of just whining and insulting people in a forum because they don't agree with someone's opinion. As well, it's none of our business if people want to ONLY play CTTH courses. So if you're complaining that there aren't enough courses for 9-hole or 18-hole A/S and Match games, you're dead wrong IMO. It is The Search Feature itself and the "Any" option which is currently preventing more A/S and Match games from being played and it has nothing to do with CTTH courses. Agree or disagree, it makes no difference to me. :)
