    Chinajohn:

Well I rented the Big Bertha Alpha Driver L96, I have the R1 and in comparison the BB is  rubbish! I tested it out on Bethpage Back 9 in practice and at Olympic in a CC tournament, those are conditions in which the BB with it's higher trajectory should have shone.

In neutral wind it's about 3 yds short of the R1, but it's shows NO trajectory advantage whatsoever. Shots at Olympic I could clear with the R1 (#10 as an example) found the trees with the BB, also it was a lot less precise going offline on dinged shots way more often than the R1 ever does.

No the BB is a competitor to the SLDR but not the R1. Compared to the SLDR it has about 3yds advantage and about the same trajectory and precision but from my memory of the SLDR the latter was more forgiving.

I played a skins game against my wife. She was using the SLDR while I used the BB Alpha . So with the same balls and matching conditions  I was only able to out drive her by 2 yards on a consistent basis

Dang - I sure wish I had bought the same 3-wood that the rest of you did.  I got the one that goes 10 yards left (yes left - always left) even when it is dinged and I have a 15 mph left to right wind.  If I try to miss the ding to the right to compensate the damn thing goes 20 yards rightand into the rough.  Very rare that I get a decent outcome with this club and it may end up in the garage corner before long.

That sure sounds like a corrupt file. I'm with MKG on this one. It's so good I fully expect to be getting an Albatross because of it. Already had 3 legitimate looks and I'm only using the 33 Callaway ball. Can't imagine what dinging that with the better balls does.

The new Callaway 3 wood is in one word "AWESOME"....275 to 280 no spin with Nike 61 ball,250 with fbs....will make a lot of the par fives easier to reach in most any head wind...Thanks WGT you got this one dialed.........

    I agree 100%!

Over the 'free rental weekend' I tried the Big Bertha Alpha 9.0 Driver (L96+) along with the 1 day rental of the TaylorMade R11S 3 Wood (L95+) and the MAX Meter Iron Set (L94+)

The results were a new personal best drive of 336.02, and 5 Eagles (in 24 hr) to add to my other 2 = 7 total. Whoopie...

[My new record putt of 104.64 ft also happened w/ the TM DSpider (92+) but I've had that putter for a while]

I found the meter of the BB pretty smooth, and since I use the intentional 'miss-ding' quite a lot on my drives, I liked its forgiveness.

Maybe the high traj. kept it from 'straying' too much on the FW. It was all done with starter balls, but time ran out and it's back to my other clubs and back to my starter irons which will be upgraded in a few days.

Sorry to hear we've got the same club woes mate, although to be fair my club shaft isn't as bent as yours ;-) Anything other than a ding is 15 yards left or right in no wind, miles worse the wrong side of the ding. It's not enough to make me bin it yet but I haven't lost a ball for ages before this club came along.

Very much risk and reward club for me as previously stated.

Just a shame we don't all seem to play with the same clubs :(

Maybe you were right Jim.  I cleared the flash cache a couple of days ago and the club seems "normal" now.  I also noticed originally when it was in my bag it was being moved behind one of my wedges - don't know if these were related or not but it is correctly showing in the 3wd position now also.  Crazy - but now even missed dings are closer to the target then what I was getting before with dinged shots.
